That was the issue with Melo, we didn't put enough strong talent around him. We also need to build a stronger team concept. Mudiay will be our star but in today's NBA that isn't enough. Nurkic, Jokic, Gallo, Chandler, maybe even Lauvergne, Barton and Harris will provide a solid base for Mudiay but that's about what we had before in the Melo era - one star surrounded by solid role players. Nurkic and Gallo could be a little better players than what we had before, but until that manifests into consistency, we're lottery material within the Western Conference. We should have a good shot at a top 3 lottery pick in the 2016 draft which could/should make us viable enough to get a star in 2017 but that may not be guaranteed either as DEN hasn't been a select FA landing spot. So we need to be patient, build through the draft, pray that TC and Kroenke draft well and that Malone can teach some strong defensive scheme's the player's can buy into. I'm not in for a return to the treadmill, even if it takes a couple of painful seasons
I like Mudiay, but you are already anointing him "our star".. right now gallo and chandler are the best players on the nuggets. We an only hope that mudiay becomes a player that is at least as good as Ty lawson. We have to get out of this idea of looking for a savior, that has killed many franchises.. instead look to put 5 allstar caliber players on the floor, similar to that of the hawks, but with a bit more balance( guys not playing out of position like horford ). This is the way you win in the NBA today. if you end up with a great player, then good... but right now I am hoping Mudiay can be as good as the player you just traded...that would be a good start..
