Why would a team trade their all star for Melo? He's certainly worth it depending on the player in question, but why would any team actually do it? They'd be in the same boat before they made the trade.
Melo isnt gonna be an easy player to trade because he can dictate where he goes, and thats assuming he'd ever want to leave, which I doubt seriously.
But if he ever asked out, or agreed, the Knicks would quite likely get close to nothing of value for him. Contenders dont have the pieces and non contenders have no leg in handing over good assets for a player they wont be receiving.
then he aint goin anywhere
A hundred times this. That "no trade" clause is a double-edged sword for Melo. Assuming Melo really wants to leave, and assuming Phil has the balls, then saying, "We're only sending you to a team that can give us something significant (lots of draft picks, expirings and/or young talent) in return. You want to leave, you help us make that happen. Otherwise, get your butt out on that court and play."
Personally, though, I think Melo's a good fit for the current team...and that we're going to exceed expectations (and sneak into the 8th spot). Hopefully, that will be enough to keep him.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.
