Dave Sobleman is a very outspoken advocate against many local projects including the street car and any subsidies for the Bucks arena. I'm guessing his public stance talked himself out of any partnership with the Bucks in the BC or new arena.

Besides, Kopps is soooo much better anyway. If not Kopps, get AJ Bombers.

I hope we hear some great Nellie stories from Marques. I imagine there are a lot of them.

And it would be great to get Nellie back here from time to time. That was never going to happen with Kohl.

Kopps would be great. Bombers is in Miller Park so they may also look to be in the new place.

http://www.nba.com/bucks/features/mb-bucks-bringing-back-one-of-their-best

When Johnson returned to Milwaukee in 2008 to be honored as a member of the Bucks’ 40th anniversary team, he shared fond memories of his early years in Milwaukee.

“I’ll never forget playing at the MECCA, with the colorful floor, the fan support, how loud the fans would get,” Johnson said. “The teams we had when I first got here, the first two or three years, with myself and Junior (Bridgeman) and Quinn Buckner and Sidney Moncrief and Brian Winters, and with Don Nelson, who was in his first full year as a head coach in my rookie year. When all of us came up together, our motto was ‘Green and Growing’ at that time.”

The Bucks did not reach the playoffs in 1978-79, but returned in 1979-80 and became postseason fixtures for 12 years. They moved to the Eastern Conference and became members of the Central Division in 1980-81.

Johnson was an NBA All-Star and an All-NBA Second Team selection in 1979-80 and 1980-81 before earning another All-Star berth in 1982-83. He helped the Bucks rise from their “Green and Growing” status to become one of the NBA’s premier teams.

“After about five years, I told (Bucks executive) John Steinmiller, ‘I think we’ve outgrown that now. We need to shed that. We need to mature and do some things,’” Johnson said. “To be one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference and the whole NBA was a special treat.”

Before being welcomed home during the franchise’s 40th anniversary ceremony at the Bradley Center on March 28, 2008, Johnson reflected back on his heyday of nearly 30 years earlier across State Street.

“They don’t make ‘em like the MECCA anymore,” Johnson said. “It was the last of the intimate, cozy kind of arenas where the fans kind of felt like they were a part of the whole scene going on out on the floor.

“When you talk about favorite memories … I’d go up for a lob pass and catch it and dunk it and the organist would play, ‘He flies through the air with the greatest of ease ...’

Here's an idea: a strip club INSIDE the new arena!!!

Man I'm good.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

The council again rejected Silk yesterday. They already lost a lawsuit and a +$400K judgement (with attorneys fees pending) the last time they voted it down and now they will likely lose another lawsuit. And at some point there will be a Silk downtown. I understand the arguments against it but at some point you have to cut your losses, especially when it's not YOUR losses, it's taxpayer losses.

Even if there's no Kopp's in the new arena, it would be cool to see them in new promotions. Get rid of the Qdoba queso challenge for Bango's half court shot and make it the Kopp's custard challenge.

I've read that with the multiple lawsuits Silk has against the city, the total the city could owe could be up to $5 mil including attorney fees.

Key things for a new arena:

1. Skywalks - Definitely need to connect everything with heated walkways. Garage; the plaza; maybe even an indoor shopping mall. It would actually be a great idea to have a strip of shops/restaurants/bars that people can walk through between the garage/plaza and the arena. Anywhere to keep people inside, warm, and wanting to be there in the dead of winter.

2. I could care less about what kind of beer is served at the arena as I don't drink, but I understand that this matters to a lot of folks so I think having good quality stuff is always a good idea.

3. Good restaurant options with a variety of different kinds of cuisine would be nice. I don't care if they have a Kopps or a Sobelmans or an AJ Bombers. I just want good quality and good variety. I really like what Miller Park has done - they have the standard concessions at pretty much every exit point from the seating area, but they also have these really unique options peppered all over. I remember the first time I saw the carving station with freshly smoked beef brisket, and it blew my mind.

4. They should have a space to host seating for other major sporting events. It would be cool if they utilized the plaza on non-Bucks Sundays for Packers games, or for World Cup matches in the summer, etc - a place for tailgating, some big screens for people to watch, lots of removable seating. You could even have outdoor movie showings at night as well. That would be outstanding.

5. Connecting the streetcar is an obvious must.

6. Last, but not least, please don't price out average consumers. That would really piss me off.

Skywalks are a big deal. They MUST be a part of the overall plan.

I'd say they'd be smart to not heat the parking garage. First it costs a ton of money. Second, you won't want to leave if you have to get into a cold ass car.

It will be very interesting to see what ticket prices will be in the new place. Assuming (hoping) for a 2017 opening you can bet they will be pushing ticket packages next season as a way to guarantee seats in the new place. I have a feeling it will take a half season minimum package for that guarantee. Fans will initially flock to games to see the new place but obviously it will come down to winning. Miller Park packed them in a first too and then attendance steadily declined until they started winning.

something similar to the Matthew Knight Arena with a huge lower bowl, but I think that you could bring the upper deck closer to the floor over the lower bowl seats without obstructing the view of the court.

The seats behind the basket in the BC are obnoxious, especially the upper deck which feels 100 yards away from the near backboard

My biggest concern is pricing people out of being able to attend.

Read some of the Yelp Reviews for LA Live and it will give you a feel for some of the biggest gripes.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/l-a-live-los-angeles

-Parking
-Pricing
-Too many franchises
-Annoying ads that talk to you while you are there

Things people like
Ice Skating Rink
Bowling Alley
Movie theater
Abundance of events

The BC has the smallest lower bowl, 11,000 seats. It will be interesting to see the new configuration.

If you did have a legit brewery run the outdoor rooftop bar, who would it be? Could you get someone like Lakefront? That would be pretty amazing. It probably won't be a beer brand, but something like that would be pretty amazing. Some sort of beer garden with representative stalls from major Wisconsin companies would be ridiculous as well.

What, you don't want to want to wear a Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas tee-shirt while eating a shi**y, overpriced burger at Hard Rock Cafe Milwaukee?

Yeah, I'm curious how this will all shake out.

So if we break ground in November. I'm guessing the targeted open would be the start of the 2017 season?

When I was at Suns game in PHX a couple years back I couldn't get over how comfortable their seating was in the lower bowl. I'm not talking the top ticket club seats but even the average stuff 35-40 rows back. Leather chairs with recline and....cup holders. It was great. Oh and did I mention the seats were actually oriented towards the court.

Good things coming.

:D

This is so exciting.

They are still targeting November 2017 but it sounds as if it will be a tight schedule so any bumps in the road could delay it a year.

You've got that flipped......the BC has a lower bowl of 7,000 with an upper deck of 11,000

They want to flip that in the new arena....get 10,000 or so in the lower bowl and another 6,000 upstairs.

The MECCA had 11,000 total seats for reference.
