If we're decent and he averages 13, 14 points per game, I think there's no way someone wouldn't pay him around 7, 8 mil next summer with the abundance of cap space teams have.
I still have to marvel at the contract we got him on.
He does have a player option. The second year is a player option.
But since every team will have extra cap space next summer, that includes the Hornets. So the Hornets can decide if they want to lock him in for a longer contract at a market value price after this season. The Hornets should be just as able to compete for Lin's services as the next team, given that everyone has cap space this summer.
And he gets to decide if he wants to make a long term commitment and stay in Charlotte after this season, depending on how he meshes with the players and whether he likes his role, coach, minutes, direction of the team, Charlotte lifestyle, etc.
The team gets to decide if he works well with what they want going ahead, and whether they see him as a long term piece and want him to come back or not.
I don't expect the 2nd year player option for $2M (virtually vet min) to be exercised unless there's a serious injury.
