Ok this is a common misconception about Pau Gasol that i really dislike. He's a VERY underrated defender and if he were as piss poor at defense as people claim he was then the Lakers wouldn't have won any championships as their main big guy. People like to credit Bynum for being the only real big man in the middle defensively, but PhilJax would end the vast majority of games with a Pau Gasol/Lamar Odom front court cuz Gasol WAS NO SLOUCH ON DEFENSE. He intelligently uses his length and size to do alot and gets a decent number of blocks too. He got punked bad by the Celtics in 08 and was rightfully lambasted as soft on D but after that he manned the **** up and was instrumental to the Lakers revived glory post Shaq.
Now is he as good on defense as Taj or Prime Noah... hell naw, but he's better than the currently gimpy Joakim Noah AND he can punish teams with his offensive game both inside and outside the paint. Something Noah can't ever do on his best days of his career. Gasol woulda made a big difference on defense in this game as Portis was a non-factor inside defensively.
It isn't 2010 anymore. Gasol sucks on defense now dude
