IF the Giants are willing to cough up that much dough, good.
the more this drags on the less I am attracted to the idea of "right now" move that we all know will be ugly during the latter half of this contract.
I was thinking about our pitching depth and who is about to come up in September today and counted...
Kershaw - b. Anderson - Wood - Magic Mike - Joe Wieland - Zach Lee for healthy and able bodies, then Ryu by May, McCarthy by ASG.
Urias - De Leon - c. Anderson by September 1st.
hypothetically, by the time the playoffs come rolling in, we would sport
Kershaw - mccarty - Ryu - magic mike - b. anderson - wood to our disposal and Urias can join the bullpen as a long reliever.
yeah we may or may not win it all with this rotation in the playoffs but it gives a ton of flexibility. if the Gnats win with Greinke next year, so be it. the following season, the gnats will be another year older, while we are gonna be having young studs come up.
in 2017, our rotation will be
Kershaw - Ryu - McCarthy - Urias for the top four with Wood - Magic Mike - Joe - de Leon and Anderson to choose from.
*** I had McCarthy ahead of Ryu for 2016 but they flip in 2017 because typically the shoulder injury would take longer to get his full strength back than TJS, if they come back at all. from everything I have read so far, Ryu thinks he can come back and pitch by the opening day although the team is saying early May.
by this time, just two years removed from this albatross of a contract is signed, Greinke's prime would likely be over and he would be getting by with his smarts and reputation than his stuff. yeah that could still be a decent middle of the rotation guy, but he won't be worth a half of his contract and we will be having another Crawford/Ethier type of dumping scenario threads.
