Not because I disagree with what you are saying, but because it always irks me when people refer to "2 weeks" like Lin just stopped playing after the 7 game win streak ended ...

Feb 4 - Nets game - Lin's breakout game
Feb 16 - last game in Knicks 7 game win streak

March 15 - D'Antoni resigned as coach

April 1 - Lin's knee surgery was announced

Lin started for Knicks for almost 2 months - 25 games total. Even counting 10 other games when he was playing spot minutes off the bench, his averages per game for the Knicks that year were:
14.6 points, 6.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals. (Yeah, and also 3.6 TOs :) )

Knicks were prepared to pay him well over the $25 million/3 yrs he got from Houston to keep him. It is just that the poison pill put them in crazy territory in terms of the luxury tax bill.

He was not some 2 week wonder.

I definitely was not suggesting he was a two week wonder. That's not at all what my post is about. You can pick the time frame - one game, two weeks, two months, one year etc... the point remains the same. If players were always judged against their best run as a pro, then every player would have a disappointed fan base.

I knew that you were not suggesting that. And I agree with your point.

Just ranting at the world at large 8-)

Appreciate your thoughtful posts about Lin.

We need a separate thread for Lin's hair.

Looks like Lin's ankle and back pain is getting better. He is playing well as is most of the team. Looking forward to Kemba and Lin providing a 1 2 punch between Batum showing he deserves to be in the ASG.

Great game for Lin, he was everywhere. Only got credited with 2 assists but could have had 10. More impressive was the 3 blocked shots! Tonight's Lin was better than Linsanity imo, hope he can continue with this type of energy.

Excellent game, especially 1st half when they needed a spark. Got a little discombobulated and tried to force a bit too much in the 2nd half but made nice plays on the defensive end. Excellent game, hope he continues. I think Lin can emerge as the 6th man here. He looked more like the Lin that we saw wrecking games against Charlotte than the sort of blend in Lin that we see for long periods in the season now.

Cant string 2 strong halves together still, sigh.

Also any reason why Kemba came in to start the 4th? Why not let Lin lead the 2nd unit and let Kemba get extra rest. If blowout continues Kemba gets alot of rest, if they come back then have Kemba come back in for his normal mins.

Was wondering the same thing...I wished Clifford would stop trying to force Kemba in, specially when things are under control...I understand Kemba is having a great game, but Lin had it locked and there were no need to force Kemba alongside Lin so early.

Kemba should had taken a sit to start 4th and come in early if they were trouble...That seems to suggest Clifford still doesn't trust Lin, even when he's playing well with large leads.

This game was the type of game where you roll with the bench player who made it possible for you to win and this player was Lin...Lin should had gotten 32 minutes tonight...reward the man, even in blow-out...let him stats pad..he took a huge pay-cut to come here, so the least Cliff can do is let him get big minutes in games he plays well.

Statistics are clearly showing Lin is better when he's the main PG facilitating and tonight was a game where Cliff needed to roll with it and let Lin do his thing since he was doing so well.

I have mixed feeling about this game....great first half..15 points....Not so great second half with only 1 point.

After such a great first half, he needed to score at least 25 points.....It kind of feel like a lost opportunity for Lin.

Maybe if Clifford had extended his minutes at the PG, he probably would had gotten more points.

I don't know. You guys just seem unhappy with much of what he does. Yeah, it would be nice if Lin scored more but he made a huge impact. And sometimes players have weaker halves than the first half, he still did well in other aspects of the game. It's not a lost opportunity, it's Lin making a huge contribution to a team win. And it really is a good showing that he's getting more integrated into the team and has more opportunities to do so going forward. I don't get a lot of negativity here around him and in Lin forums. Don't worry, be happy. Lin is getting more chemistry with the team and finding his game within the team's system.

Nah, Knicks was never prepare to pay him. Knicks never made an offer to Lin. This probably come from Melo. No one shine play along side with Melo.

What the Knicks should have been done is offer him 5m/yr for 3 years on day one and they could have seal the deal. Lin already stated he wanted to stay with the Knicks.

I thought they were going to match until Morey gave more money and the poison pill?

TTNN wrote:When Kemba is playing with starter unit, he had 22% USG rate, and that jumped to 32.9% when he is playing in the second team.

When Lin is running the second team, (that is he is playing with Lamb without Kemba and Batum on the floor with him), the second team is shooting at 47.4% FG%, and with 65% of shots assisted, that's pretty good efficiency and ball movement. And the second team is out score opponents 13 points per 100 possession.

When Kemba is playing with the second team, the second team is shooting at 38% FG% and with only 43% shot assisted, and is not able to out score their opponents.

I don't think asking for Lin to run that second team is unreasonable. Even when Kemba is playing out of his mind now. He was very efficient playing in that 2nd team, with 53% 2FG% and 37.5% 3FG, you could not asking for more. But, I think we should look at the team performance instead of individual performance here.

I'm not against Kemba playing with second team, or Lin play together with Kemba, you can't not play Kemba when he is this good. But, I do hope Kemba change his playing style when he is playing with the second team, that 32.9% USG and his 75% shot not assisted is a little too much there.

Nice post. I think they're still trying to figure things out and get acclimated to each other. Lin still has a lot to learn and improve on. Once he gets there it's gonna be different. Perhaps Cliff is trying Kemba out as the 6th man?

It's not just any 2-week span tho, it's his first 2 weeks as a starter. That shouts "promise"!

I'm happy with his performance tonight, he's making progress and positively impacting the team. People tend to judge player's performance mostly on points but he played a good all-around game. Looks like he's subbing in earlier now and taking some of Lamb's minutes (Lamb has cooled off a bit), this goes to show that the tide does turn and that Clifford is still making adjustments. Of course I'd like to see him play more PG but Kemba has been playing very well and we're winning....Be patient, as long as he's taking steps forward and the team wins, be happy :)

Better results for Lin after a injury induced slump.

Until he can learn to be consistent

and his numbers show a consistency he's been lacking due to slumps, injuries, back pain, ankle sprain, and playing time that varies from game-to-game its going to be a learning process, its still early in the season so he has plenty of time to get comfortable and gel with his teammates ~ don't expect much, too early.

with time I hope he can regain (consistently) his aggression and killer instinct, and supreme confidence he's shown flashes of.

People need to remember that for Lin Batum and others that are new to the roster, they are still getting comfortable.

The Cavs are still going through growing pains with their new roster and new additions.

A great game. Lin did what he does the best - to save the game. I think he sat back in 2rd half and always passed the ball to Kemba. I felt Cliff was helping Kemba building stats for All-stars by putting him back in 4th quarter even we had big leads in past two games. We still have 60 games to go and only few games out of playoff picture. Keep player healthy should be #1 priority. Keep fun games going.

I hope the iced up joints in the Bonnell piece doesn't prove to be too much cause for concern. But I guess we'll have to see how his body responds on this back to back.
