a) Nervous about it, but have to re-sign Beal
b) Re-sign Sessions and Dudley
c) Bring over Satoransky
d) I'd love to have Biyombo. Just what we need - rebounding and defense. He'll be due big money with the way he's been playing and Toronto hopefully can't afford him. Will have other suitors.
e) Backup plan to (d) is to bring back Seraphin. He can't be happy in NYC with so little playing time.
f) Sign Jon Leuer. High energy PF. Doesn't shoot a lot of 3's but has good %.

PG - Wall, Sessions
SG - Beal, Sato
SF - Porter, Oubre
PF - Dudley, Leuer, Humphries, Gooden
C- Gortat, Biyombo, Blair
Other - 1st round pick. Groom a PG like Melo Trimble to take over for Sessions. I think the best big men will be gone by the time we pick - especially any stretch 4 possibilities.

Other options:
a) Have to consider Ryan Anderson, but he'll be expensive with lots of of offers, and not sure he's worth it.
b) Pry a big man from Boston. Not David Lee. Probably couldn't get Olynek, but he'd be perfect.

I like much of this. I absolutely would not go after Seraphin though. And I'd take a shot at Batum before settling for Dudley. Leuer and Biyombo are good ideas though. If we added them, I'd definitely let Hump and Blair go. I might keep Gooden on a vet minimum contract.

Also, I love Sessions but wouldn't chase him in a bidding process. If he wouldn't agree to something south of 2 years $10M, I'd probably let him walk and look elsewhere.

Would love to have Durant, but we're no 10s. Maybe he'll show some mercy.
I think we'll make the playoffs, if healthy, and my changes would help, but still not close to championship level.
In my day, would have been in heaven with 7/8s. Our Wiz will have to be content to do the same with theirs. (confusing wiz and jiz, but the attempted metaphor was worth a try)

I agree that it is essentially our team now. But outside of Durant, I don't really see a way we can massively improve the team via free agency without dramatically overpaying in a way that cripples us for the long term. I see bsilver's plan as a means of maintaining our general .500-ish roster while getting a bit younger and without committing to any horrific contracts. The idea is to tread water and then hope to make a big improvement in 2017 (when there are better free agents on the market), or in 2018 (when most teams will have shot their wad and the free agency market won't have quite so many bidders).

Indeed, to that end, I would be heavily in favor of trading Beal for Portis or some other young player or pick on a cheap contract.

We need to trade everyone not named Beal, Wall, Oubre, Porter, and Gortat. Trade everyone else for picks and trash you can dump right away. Beal is a good SG and in his prime. Wall is a great PG and in his prime. Porter is entering his prime and an above average SF/PF/tweener type. Oubre is looking to be a fast learner and will contribute as a SF/PF/tweener type too. Gortat is a backup C next year, and bigs are hard to come by, so we have to keep him.

We will already be losing everyone not named Beal, Wall, Oubre, Porter and Gortat. Everyone else on the team has an expiring contract. We could try and trade them now, but nobody is going to pay more than a late 2nd round pick for a half-year rental of a mediocre veteran like Dudley, Humphries or Sessions. We're better off keeping them and hoping for a playoff run that at least keeps Durant intrigued with our team.

Gasol seems like our best chance minus KD to get a potential impact player imo. Pay him max money for a short amount of years--hope its good enough to bridge the way to the next great free agency class. I doubt Chicago would outbid us given the plethora of young PF talent they have.

What the Wizards need most heading into 2016/2017 is credibility as an organization.

Cash isn't going to lure anybody but players desperately looking to boost their career earnings.

In order to take the next step the Wizards have to rid themselves off the stench of Grunfeld's tenure, and hire a front office and coaching staff that's been there and can convince prospects that Washington has a future.

Everything else is just going to result in more of the same **** the few dedicated fans of this team have been dealing with for the past 40 years.

Edit Forget Cousins is a FA in 18, Sign a PF then do the same juice up the bench and sign TSat and get JanV.

I honestly think Gasol is the best choice available as a free agent. He won't demand a ton of years and will probably be worth the money for those years.

I think if we try to go small without getting an all-star caliber player at the 4....its going to get really bad really fast.
