for: Love, Varajeo, and Mozgov.

In terms of talent, Cleveland gets a massive defensive upgrade at the 3-5 spots and offensive downgrade, but since Lebron and Irving and JR take 90% of their shots, it probably makes them a better team. They also have Knight who can be damn good if used correctly and his discipline is improved. We get Love and about $6 mill in cap space, plus another $5 when Mozgov expires. We'd have to eat Varajeo's awful deal for 1 more year, but it's unguaranteed for 2017.

Phoenix could then use cap space to go after Barnes, Fournier, or Whiteside. Not likely we get any, but we'd potentially have the space to do it.

We could also throw in Tele if needed, netting us Cunningham (at least he's young and has talent), and Kaun if more was needed.

PG--Bledsoe/Archie
SG--Booker/Bogdan/Archie
SF--Warren/Bogdan
PF--Love/Len/Leuer
C--Whiteside/Len

We'd also have our first rounder to add a PF in all likelihood, or Dunn. I'm not a huge Love fan for this team, but if we could get Whiteside somehow instead of Chandler, it would change things since our age grouping would look a hell of a lot better with 26 year old Whiteside instead of 35 year old Chandler.

That is a lowball offer from Phoenix. You can't keep a entire core and get love just not realistic. It would take 2/3 of Booker/Warren or Len along with multiple picks and markieff etc.

What do you think Cleveland is trying to do this year? Because if you think Cleveland is wanting 19 year olds and 22 year olds who are less proven over vets, then I think you're incredibly wrong. GM Lebron wants to win while Lebron has a chance at a title. Len is the only guy who has proven he would be ready to play in a playoff series, and he's not been the defensive anchor to title teams like Chandler has. If Cleveland was in any way trying to build for the future, they don't make the Mosgov trade, and they don't give out their ridiculous contracts to role players all of last year. They are going for it NOW above all else, and they nearly traded him last year, when his stock was higher, for IT and Markieff alone. The principle of "a core guy must be moved" only applies to teams who are trying to build a core. Cleveland is not trying to build a core. They are trying to tinker with a lineup to win while Lebron still has something, because their window dies with him.

But you are offering overpaid/trash/trash/overpaid for 2 former All-NBAs and an expiring. Three bigs, two of which are on good contracts, for two bigs, a bench SF, and a, well, he's either a SG who can't shoot, or a PG that won't pass. $13M x 4 yrs for a 33 YO Bench 5; $14M x 5 yrs for the combo guard who can't, uh, guard...or shoot...or assist. $8M for a eFG% of .410 and sub .300 3PT%, for 4 more years, and Tucker. When Tucker is the most valued piece of that group, and you are trading for an All-Star/All-NBA player, regardless of what one personally thinks of Love, the bottom line is, he's valuable. And I still don't understand why exactly Cleveland would trade Love; it's not as if he's a poor fit or anything. He's still producing at a decent clip. Yes, he's overpaid as well, but at least 'you' are paying for an All-Star. We are paying for an over the hill Chandler, and an ineffective Knight.

No, I can't see Cleveland wanting to take on for more years of $35M for Knight/Chandler/Kieff for the right to trade 5 more years of $22M. Again, Tucker is the best piece for them, and that's not good...

Who is the 2nd All-NBA player? Varajeo? Because 1, if that's the case, then Tyson is all-NBA and a Finals Monster. Nobody in that trade coming back has value aside from Love and Mozgov, and Mozgov is needed for salary matching, and is a guy Cleveland has been shopping all year.

Knight has more value than you give him credit for. The only other 24 year olds who have put up his combo of points, assists, and rebounds in the past 7 years are Curry, Harden, and Westbrook. Yes, everyone here hates how he plays, but he isn't a bad shooter, and his assist numbers aren't anywhere near as bad as this fan base insists it is. I don't love the guy at all, but the idea that his contract is unmovable is a bit much.

Markieff is a guy they want. You can call him trash, but Cleveland wants that trash. Chandler when he wants to be is the same old Chandler. He has been lazy as hell this season. But he's shown in our early games that he still has ability, and over the past 2 as well. He's a better defensive big man than anybody on their team from a talent perspective. Last year he was 3rd in the NBA in winshares IIRC.

What we're really offering is a bunch of guys who are proven individually, particularly on defense, and who make them better this year. Love is not playing at an All-NBA level either. If you're going to hold all of our guys to just how they've played this year, then we aren't even getting an all-star arguably. Bledsoe was better than Love this year.

I will give you that the Cavs don't take Chandler. But - I think a trade of Love for Knight/Kieff - just those players - makes the Cavs a better TEAM for the playoffs. The Cavs are not winning with the way they use Love. They need guys that can score the ball, Kieff, when his mind is right, would be a solid asset. Same as Knight. The Cavs have 90m to pay for Love. Kieff and Knight would cost about the same. I think if the Cavs want to win the title - this is the type of trade that helps them.

If somehow the trade were Love and Players for Tucker, Kieff and Knight - the Cavs should have made that trade already - yesterday. Like Mozgov - he is a great agent to be

I'd only be interested in the Love trade if Boston were involved and we got younger assets from them including the Brooklyn pick this year. Then we could talk because as pointed out, Love just isn't a great fit with our core both age wise and from a chemistry point of view as his defensive deficiencies will be hard to hid along with guys like Booker and Warren......at least Warren and Booker can improve in that aspect, Love is only going to get worse as he gets older and begins to get slower even if that is a few years down the track......

I would only do option 2, and most of the others (if not all) are not anything I would think about at all.

Look unless the trade brings in another good player.. Goodwin is a keeper.
Lots of people here bashed him for being out of control..... 3 games in a row he has played absolutely in control, even in more control in comparison to players getting 15 times more money than he does.

Then his free throws got criticized... yet he is shooting 80% in the last 3 games with 5+ attempts.

Then his shooting... people say they wished he had a jump shot atleast... well he has shown confidence in taking and making jump shots and even 3s.

I think he will continue getting better the more confident he becomes... he is only 21 and owed 1 million a year.... absolutely has no down side.

I understand that their the Warren fans here who want Warren to explode and they dont want Goodwin taking his chances.
I also understand that their are Booker fans, who want Booker to have the keys at the SG spot... perfectly understandable.

But as shown... all 3 can play together and has room to grow together.

The Suns are so far behind the contenders that their is actually no rush into making the playoffs.. so that they just get bounced out in the first round.

The funny thing about that article is Kelly Olson wrote it.

She also wrote an article in 2014 about Goodwin being a "zero" guard, in the mold of Westbrook and should be given a chance... then she writes this article DUMPING Goodwin to clear space to rebuild.. when Goodwin is 21 and owed almost nothing in terms of money.

We have so many pieces with movable contracts that if we DON'T make a move, I'm going to be pissed.

So many teams could use the sorts of players we have, whether it's Tucker or Kieff or Chandler or Teletovic or Leuer or Price, there's a contender/fringe playoff team who could USE one or more of these guys, McD has to make some tough decisions.

As long as we're not sending picks out, all those guys should be available for young players/expirings/a star (Love I guess)/picks.

Those offers are horrific - we're helping the Nets WAY too much with that first one. Second is one I'd do, even the 4th I'd do Chandler for Noah straight up, if only to give Len a chance to play as a pure C like he should be.

Trade proposals are more telling of a posters age than anything. Ignoring sensibility is something almost exclusively related to youth.

Agree that only two is reasonable but I think the Cavs still need Brandon Knight more than Teletovic and Tucker.

Love for Kieff and Knight make sense - if you want to add filer from the Cavs for Tucker - so be it

Option 1:
Suns receive: Joe Johnson
Nets receive: Tyson Chandler, Markieff Morris, Archie Goodwin, 2017 lottery protected first-rounder

"They [Suns] get back their cap flexibility " What does this accomplish? Who the hell is going to sign with the worst team in the NBA - especially after it just got rid of its most seasoned veteran. We get rid of two young assets (Goodwin and a first rounder) for the privilege of getting turned down by Harrison Barnes this offseason - good thinking.

Option 2:
Suns receive: Kevin Love
Cavaliers receive: Markieff Morris, P.J. Tucker, Mirza Teletovic, 2017 lottery protected first-rounder

A steal for Phoenix, but no way that the Cavs do it. Kevin Love in exchange for non of the Suns' top 5 player, one year after trading the #1 pick to acquire Love - David Griffin would get laughed out of town.

Option 3:
Suns receive: Alec Burks, two 2016 second-round picks (Jazz own 4)
Jazz receive: Brandon Knight

Yeah, let's trade Knight for a player who plays the same position, but is older and worse. At least Brandon Knight looked good for about a month, and clearly has the talent and skill set to be an impact player - he just need to come to terms with the fact that someone else has to run the offense, and that he's a Jason Terry type player. Alec Burks meanwhile is getting worse by the year and is injured to boot.

Option 4:
Suns receive: Joakim Noah
Bulls receive: Tyson Chandler, Archie Goodwin, 2016 Cleveland first-round pick

Again we give up young assets to create cap space that we don't need. Goodwin is starting to show promise and we ship him out as a throw-in in a salary dump? I just had a quick peekaboo at draft express and about half of the prospects in the first and second round of the draft are between the ages of 21-24. In other words, about half of 2016 draft class is about the same age or older as Goodwin - how many of those guys are going to score three 20+ games in a row do you recon?

I strongly believe that the only way we get Love is if we send Bledsoe back in return. CLE would not dump Love without getting any star talent in return to preserve face for Griffin and LBJ. I admit that Chandler, Tucker, Knight would actually be quite useful for them but value wise, CLE would never accept it. Something in the likes of Keef, Bledsoe, filler for Love filler makes too much sense especially if we consider how Bledsoe is LBJs buddy buddy and the CAVs defensive frustrations with Irving. With this transaction, CAVs then morph fully into a athletic defense oriented team So the question is are we willing to cough up Bledsoe? And can the CAVs accept that they wont get Bledsoe back for this season due to injury?

Those proposals are shockingly bad.

Number one makes no sense at all for either team. Why would the Nets want Chandler and Markieff when they already have Lopez and Young. Why would the Suns throw away three good assets in Chandler, Goodwin, and a pick for just cap space.

Number two is insane for the Cavaliers. If you think the Cavaliers are going to trade away a signed Kevin Love for only role players with limited skills and a lottery protected draft pick you are out of your mind.

Look at this justification: "This trade might befuddle some from the Cavaliers’ perspective, but it’s more simple than you think. Love simply cannot be on the floor against the Golden State Warriors when they go small without being exposed, which is the inevitable task for the Cavs when they reach the finals. Insert two players who can be in Morris and Tucker, who are both great defensive players when they are at their best, particularly Tucker."

Does the author of this article watch basketball? Since when is Morris a great defensive player. Not in this world.

Number three is another trade that makes no sense. The Suns would get rid of Knight to clear room for Booker and Goodwin. Why would they trade for another shooting guard? They need an unselfish point guard. Secondly, why would the Jazz trade a 6'6" shooting guard for a 6'3" combo guard who makes far more money.

Number four once again is a head scratcher. Trade away good assets in Chandler, Goodwin, and the 2016 Cleveland pick for cap space. Completely pointless.

I do not think the person who wrote this article understands the term reset. That means you trade away the older veterans only for more young players and picks. It does not mean trade away young players or picks for cap space, especially when you have had a hard time attracting free agents to sign with your team.

You have a point in how does Cleveland to its fan base explain trading Kevin Love to Phoenix for three guys on a team that is currently 14-32 and playing for ping pong balls named Ben Simmons. You are correct

But, the fact is - they have been beaten by all the teams they need to beat to win the title. They have four guys in Varegao, Mozgov, Love . Thomspn, make it five, Sasha Kaun, who really can't all play against the SPurs or Warriors - if they make the finals. Knight, Tucker and Morris - IN; Love and Varejao, Mozgov OUT - and they might have a chance.

No, they are ALL about trying to win it all this year. Besides, Bledsoe is already a Klutch sports client. They get back these other guys, LeBron can recruit Knight, the Morris twins, and whoever else to sign right of with Rich Paul.

Return to Phoenix Suns
