@Foye: Yepp, there are lot things i agree with. Cutting the U23 was a big mistake. Just to save a few 100K. No chance for young players, or players like Kittel who are back from injuries to develop. And we took away the chance for Schur to gain experience on a higher level and maybe take over one day. Nobody really understood that move.
The thing with Russ, Veh made him co-captain. He is obviously one of his favorite players and sees him as a leader. I haven´t seen much of a leadership. He fights yes, but he slows the game dramatically and makes a lot of mistakes. He is solid as a backup defender, but thats it. The main problem is our slow midfield. Stendera is a talented player, but can´t make the game fast. Aigner is completely out of shape the whole year. We aquired Huszti for the left field, who is slower than anyone else in the League i think. And all he does is passing the ball back. He hasn´t Bundesliga quality at all. But he still plays every time. Our entire midfield is standing when we have the ball. And we knew this for months, and couldn´t aquire the right pieces during the break to get more flexible. This is 2011 all over again. We can only hope Hoffenheim and Hannover don´t get on a winning streak to hold that 16th spot at least.
And we had more than enough problems last year with Schaaf. The guy had no clue how to run this team. We gave up so many games after leads. And he didn´t react, he made no changes during the game. The team had several meltdowns during the season, and the guy didn´t give a ****. Meier singlehandedly saved our and his ass. Yes, there were 4/5 entertaining games, thanks to our non-existent defense/defensive midfield. The rest was ugly and without any real gameplan. And then there were a lot of differences between the players and the coach. Players obviously disagreed to his leadership style. It was the best for all to part ways.
But getting Veh back, was the worst of all decisions our management made. And i don´t see any changes coming. If we really stay in the BuLi and Veh has to go, than we continue to hire the same kind of coaches who are around a long time in the BuLi, who tend not to disagree with our management. Nothing will change with Steubing, Hellmann, Fischer. And maybe Heldt joins the club after the season for Bruchhagen. Or maybe Nerlinger.
What would i give for a guy like Heidel who knows how to run things.
P.S. At least my Celtics make me proud at the moment.
