He absolutely could potentially become the greatest bigman in NBA history. Yes, the expectations are high, but I have no idea how that is preposterous. At the age of twenty, he is having the best rookie season since Tim Duncan (or LeBron James). The sky is the limit for this dude; I am a massive, massive cynic, but I am certain Towns is a lock for the Hall-of-Fame going forward.
In Wilt's rookie season, he averaged 38 points per gam and 27 rebounds per game. Admittedly he was older, but we can safely assume that Towns will never reach those numbers in his career.
You have to adjust for pace of play, those guys had far more possessions than modern NBA games do. In addition, you have to look at efficiency (albeit, it must be adjusted to recognize the pace of play), as well as the level of competition.
Shaquille O'Neal was a far more dominating type of player, but his statistics look lower due to pace. I hate downing players from older generations, as it is a bit unfair, but things such as pace have to be accounted for.
That said, to reiterate, I stated he "could become", and I still stand-by it.
