You said "5x easier" I just pointed everything out using statistics. If you want to argue facts by all means come at me with another set of facts.

Until then im not interested in having an argument over your "feelings".

Pistons will make the playoffs. I can say that with confidence as its a statistical probability.

You dont have to "explain why the Pacers have an easier schedule" as I have already pointed it out and stated clearly.

What you do have to explain is 5x easier.

Are you really using the "strength of schedule stat" to say that's the reason their schedule isn't 5x easier?
How about go look at some sports books odds or something? Most likely the Pacers are 5x more likely to beat the 76ers or Brooklyn, than our odds are to beat Miami, Chicago, Washington, Cleveland.

Detroit 0.598
Indiana 0.418

These numbers can't quantify odds... we're talking about the chances of the Pacers beating their opponents versus the chance of us beating our opponents.

Stop arguing nothing, the Pacers have a significantly easier schedule and it's not even debatable.

Just curious, but why can't a fan be "unreasonably optimistic"? And is this the general board? Why do we care what fans of other teams think of us? What's wrong with being a little greedy and not wanting to make the playoffs, just so we can go meekly into the night? I want that 7 seed, and I want to take Toronto down and anybody else who comes into our paths. Yeah we're a young team, but how much will our guys confidence grow if they, not only make the playoffs, but win a round and make some noise. I'll be patient and wait for this team to mature and hit their stride, but I want it to happen as soon as possible. Screw calm! I'm a Pistons fan!!!

The point is that there are people that only follow the Pistons, so to get a more diverse opinion you go to the General Board to get the viewpoints of people that actually follow the NBA as a whole, and not just one team.
Obviously anything said on the Pistons board is going to be biased.

Once again I am not arguing the Pacers have an easier schedule. Your arguing that point with some mysterious poster who is apparently invisible to everyone but you.

And did you just say "These numbers cant quantify odds"?

Really?

What should we use then? I am extremely interested in your answer to this question.

Those numbers can't quantify that the Pacers have a 5x easier schedule in their present form. Obviously I was using 5x loosely... but it's probably true.
The Warrior's are probably at least 20X more likely to beat the 76ers than the odds of us beating anyone remaining on our schedule, how would you use the "strength of schedule statistic" to determine that?
.598 & .418 doesn't tell me anything except that our schedule is harder in relation to their schedule. Show me the odds of the Pacers beating Brooklyn versus us beating Miami.

I am not going to argue with you anymore as it seems your shrugging off numbers when making any assertion and in the context of the current argument that's just silly.

Ill just leave this here and let you decide if we need to worry about the Wizards or Bulls;

http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-nba-picks/

I am stating that I wanted the Bulls to win against Indiana as it did not statistically speaking, significantly improve their odds of overtaking the Pistons if the Pistons beat OKC. That is exactly what happened. Your position is that Indiana should have won making it near impossible for the Bulls to overtake the Pistons.

I am saying(and here it comes) that even if the Bulls beat Indiana(they did) their chances(get ready)of overtaking the Pistons are still extremely low(and they are!) if the Pistons beat OKC(BOOM. They did)

Hence the assertion that I wanted the Bulls to beat Indiana as it would strengthen the Pistons chances to grab the 7th seed if we also beat OKC.

That is what happened. Now if you want to argue purely that the Pistons will not overtake Indiana for the 7th seed fine, by all means. I will be arguing a losing battle on that front as I have already pointed out that the Pacers have an easier schedule! That point seems to be lost on you somehow. I take umbrage with your "5x" because it speaks to how you want to use numbers, but not abide by the rules of the number itself.

All I am saying is that the odds are extremely low that the Pistons miss the playoffs. I am not saying it cannot happen, but that it probably won't according to statistics.

I am also, in conclusion saying I WANT THE RAPTORS

I don't disagree with that, but we're only up 2.5 games on the Bulls and we still have to face the Bulls.. so it's a possibility.

Yeah we should never expect Brooklyn to beat Indiana, regardless of the fact that it just happened Saturday.

Brooklyn and New York have all the incentive in the world to play spoiler.

Yeah I actually agree. I just was making light of the perceived notion Indiana can expect to just show up and win out.

Return to Detroit Pistons
