I like this game more for the fact that our bench will get quality minutes to try and improve chemistry than for the fact that the starters will be preserved.

Geez, I miss the 1st half to take care of errands and I come back to see Jamal and Austin leading us to a lead at the half.

The Element Of Surprise

Post#6 » by Wammy Giveaway » Fri Apr 1, 2016 2:54 am

You can look at tonight's game in one of two ways:

Strength In Difficulty: For the Clippers, no Chris Paul, no Blake Griffin, no DeAndre Jordan, no J.J. Redick, no Paul Pierce. They don't have Branden Dawson either (word is, he's out for the rest of the season until the court issues are resolved). It's the bench's chance to prove they can finally win a game for the starters. If they do, it'll give the Clippers that element of surprise when the playoffs arrive. Opponents will not know what hit them because...

Opponents Aren't Taking The Clippers Seriously: The fatal flaw of the bench is the worst kept secret in the NBA. Doc's bench is comprised of players who played for him before, who defeated him in the past, and his own son. They don't rebound and they don't defend. Opposing teams have shredded the Clipper bench to the tune of 27 losses, one game worst than last year's 56-26 record. The Clippers bench should be patty cake for elite teams like the Warriors, Spurs and Thunder to feast on. For the Thunder, they thought the Clipper bench would play like their usual selves. That thought process is the main reason why the Clippers are leading.

Young Rivers and Crawford have been carrying us tonight. (I meant to post earlier but dosed off)
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Lacking in Hustle Points

Doc said losing the 50/50 battles would be our downfall and two missed opportunities late looks to be the case.

Props to all the guys tonight. They showed up and played their hearts out. They weren't given much of a chance by anybody, but made a game out of it. Proud of them.

Moral Victory?

Post#15 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 1, 2016 4:13 am

I only saw the 2nd half but I liked the effort with our defensive pressure even if it wasn't really effective. The effort tonight was heavily dependent on an offensive hot streak that can't really be relied upon. It was a great effort by our usual bench players, but it also showed that there are some shortcomings that still need to be addressed.

I guess it was an opportunity for Austin to show what he got for crunch time, but normally Jamal Crawford should be the one taking the last shot for the Clippers. Wesley Johnson is so frustrating because he can be more valuable if he would apply himself and be more disciplined. He came up with a big rebound late in the game only to turn it over to Westbrook. He also continued to shoot 3-pointers without having his feet set at least on one possession tonight.

Russell Westbrook grabbed the last rebound and fell to the ground.

period.

I wanted a chance at Jamal hoisting up a video game 3 for the game winner.

Double Standard

Post#17 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 1, 2016 4:26 am

Chris Paul gets called for a technical foul for a "loud clap" while Westbrook gets away with the stare and ball-drop. I'm just saying. I'll have to acknowledge the smart play at the end where Russell just threw the ball into the air to end regulation.
