Why not identify several candidates with some diversity of thought and experience? If it was me, I'd want to interview a guy like Brooks. But I'd also want to talk with a smart broadcaster type (like Kenny Smith). I'd want a guy I thought did a good job at a previous stop, and perhaps got prematurely axed -- like Monty Williams. I'd want to talk with someone like David Blatt. I'd want to talk with a few of the hungry young'uns who have been successful in the D-League -- like Jordi Fernandez, Casey Hill, Nate Bjorkgren, or Nevada Smith.

This front office seems to reach a conclusion before they've given much thought to the question.

Is it because they have so little confidence in their ability to attract people they want - because some potential suitors are still in the playoffs?

Remember they hurried up the process to screw themselves when they signed Maynor.

Or is it that they're too lazy to do even what others regard as just the bare minimum due diligence work?

I think it might be overconfidence in their acumen. They're full of certainty that they're doing things the right way. They KNOW they're right. About seemingly everything.

How do they deal w/ the fact that they've managed so very little progress in 6 years of rebuilding? What's their explanation?

I wish I was making this up, but...

Spoiler:
Bad luck.

That's the summary version, anyway.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

So when Brooks takes another job, what is Ernie going to do. Every other qualified candidate will play hard ball.

There doesn't appear to be any real voice of reason within the org who has any influence, this is how you get everyone "unanimous" on Vesely. Desparation and panic are behind a lot of Ernie's biggest blunders since he's been here.

Glad Grunfeld went through the rigorous process of interviewing only Scott Brooks before hiring Scott Brooks.

Well its a done deal for Brooks. A slightly above average coach in my book. Better than who he replaces.

35m$ for 5 years, but the salaries are getting higher and higher for coaches too, so it is what it is, and Houston was in the mix as well, so Ernie felt the need to put more $ on the table.

Hey, if it is the difference between no Durant and Durant, fully worthy

Hope so. Brooks would have been on my list of candidates. I wish the team had considered other candidates too. Hopefully he'll work out.

I'm fine with it. The only thing that gives me pause is the prospect of EG getting a 5-year extension to sync things up. (shudder)

Tied for highest paid coach in the league, outside of those who have total control. I'll give credit to Ted for going after his man and getting him. Now maybe we can get a FA or two (not named Durant) to come because he has a little more cache' than Witt.
