I was thinking that if has to retire and it is certified by the NBA and Bosh himself he basically turns into an expiring contract that comes off the books Feb X, if I'm reading the CBA right.

It's one or the other:

1. Heat & Bosh decide it's a career-ending injury, ask league & player's association to evaluate (it's their doctors, not Bosh's or the Heat's that make the decision), and a year after his last game (because he played more than 10 games this season), the salary comes completely off the books.

OR

2. They continue to treat it as an injury. Bosh stays on the team without playing for the year. We get a DPE up to the $5.628M to spend on a player and wait until the end of the year to discuss retirement.

"Retirement" is a fuzzy concept in the NBA since its most famous player retired, went off to play baseball, came back to win 3 championships, retired again, and returned for 2 seasons for the Wizards.

I'm not really sure which is the best option. I still think Bosh will try to come back actually. A patient's determination is the most important factor in a case like this.

does anyone know if Bosh is still on blood thinners, & if he is, is he required to stay on them forever, or only for a certain amount of time?
