My apologies. He's still been worse than Mills, which would lend him to the bench in SAS.
Nope. You don't know anything about Pop. He is a defensive master. He wouldn't allow his daily starting PG to be too short.
I'm a huge Lin fan but I seriously doubt Pop would start Lin ahead of Mills...In my own opinion and from eye test, I believe Lin is better than Mills, but Pop has coached Mills for a number of years and is familiar with him, so that alone would must likely give Mills the nod over Lin to start.
I believe Lin is better because he's the bigger point guard at a full 6'3 while Mills is short at only 6'0...That alone is huge since most coaches prefer bigger guards
As comparison, Mills is the better shooter with better shooting-line stats while Lin is the more explosive scorer and can get to the lane better by attacking the rim...Lin also gets to the free-throw line at a very high rate...Even when he's coming off the bench, Lin is able to average in double digit for the season at about 12ppg....Mills can only muster a 8.7ppg average for the season.
I also believe Lin is the better defender, although I'm sure many who haven't watched Lin closely, would disagree but it's more because of perception and what they've heard...Lin is a much better defender than people think...Just ask Clifford, the Hornets coach, about Lin and he'll tell you how surprised he was about Lin's defense..And it's because of the perception that has been built about Lin being a total liability on the defensive end...Lin was actually the best wing defender in Charlotte..Better than Kemba and Lamb and PJ Hairston.
So watching Mills and Lin, I believe Lin is the better defender and Lin's 6'3 frame is preferable to Mills 6'0 frame.
But with everything said, I still believe Pop would start Mills ahead of Lin because he's familiar with him...I think Pop would have issue with Lin's turn-over since this is one of Lin's weakness, although this part of his game has gotten better with Charlotte.
