I have come to the conclusion that Simmons HAS TO BE THE PICK. Look, I won't go into the basketball reasons because they are already posted in this thread. I'm going to bring another reason that he is the pick that some might not have thought of.
Simmons is the much larger name than Ingram. I was and still am the biggest Hinkie supporter there is. During the late Iverson years I was begging the franchise to tear it down and build through the draft. However, that being said one of the downsides of the process is that the average Joe equates 76ers with losing. The 76ers over the course of the last few years have taken a hit on the brand. I work in a casino and whenever NBA is brought up at the table the 76ers get killed. All over the country and across the globe the 76ers are a laughing stock.
If you did a poll with everyone in the world asking the basic question "Which name do you recognize more; Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram" I would guarantee SImmons would likely win by a good margin.
Simmons would instantly be the face of the franchise. When you think of LeBron you think of the Cavs, Wade:Heat, Durant&Westbrook: OKC, Curry:Warriors, Iverson:76ers BEN SIMMONS:76ers.
I'm not saying Ingram couldn't do this as well, I just think Simmons has that "it" factor on & off the court just like Iverson did. Simmons also likely has a cult following in Australia, we'd have a lot of new 76ers fans in the Down Under (especially with Brown being from there)...
Thoughts?
I'm Simmons all the way, and have been all year. I'm also a huge Hinkie supporter, but Hinkie would never use "bigger name" as a reason to take a player.
2 years from now the better player between Ingram and Simmons will be the bigger name.
I'm sure that Hinkie would have taken Simmons simply because he has the higher upside with very little risk.
I hope no one reads my post and thinks that is the #1 reason I'm going Simmons, lol...no way...It was just another check point on SImmon's side for me.
