Offer the Pelicans #9, Ross and De Colo for #6 and Asik. BAM! Instant talent upgrades for the Pelicans, we get our future starting SG or PG in Murray, and we fill the backup C position. They also get to draft Poeltl which they wanted to do anyway.

Asik kind of sucks, and he is owed about as much as Ross per year, but to get a potential star in Murray, I think we'd have to do it. Plus, with Ross gone, we can even give Murray some of his minutes in the rotation.

Extra bonus. Casey can't under play JV because he won't love Asik as much as he loves Biyombo.

Deal is off though if Hield is the one to fall to #6. They seem to love him.

Nice trade - does it pass the checker?

Salaries are only $100k apart so it should pass. Of course, they would have to be able to sign De Colo, but with all of the cap space they will have, I'm sure they could make him an offer he can't refuse.

Doesn't work until Ross' new contract kicks in July 1st. So they would have to draft for us and us for them, then complete the trade at a later date

I like the trade. But a little hesitant on asik. Too much money for a one dimensional player.

That being said de Colo rights can't be traded. He is a rfa. Only draft rights can be traded. So decolo will have to agree to sign and trade. And that makes it so much more complicated.

Just my take: I like Skal's game but I think he will eventually someone who failed as having the tools but not the box, and not able to reach his potential. He is too nice as a person and seems to be mentally weak (loose confidence easily). If he plays for a poor team (i.e. 76 ers) and can stay on the floor no matter what mistakes he made, he might reach his potential.

I like Poeltl's offensive game and passing skills but he doesn't seem to bring something vastly different compared to JV (yes I was spoiled by Biyombo).

I like Sabonis's toughness and passing skills but he seems too thin to bang with the NBA bigs at the moment and doesn't possess elite physical attributes. He could possibly be an energy big that comes off the bench.

If the usual suspects who were supposed to go in the top 8 spots were all gone, I think it could be a possibility we trade our 9th + 27th to Denver for their 15th and 19th picks. I think with the picks, we can choose any two of (in the order of my preference) :

Demetrius Jackson (elite athlete who can shoot)

Patrick McCaw (this kid can ball and can play PG. Not sure about his work ethics but if he works hard his offensive skillset could be more versatile than DD's, and his d could probably be better than Demar's after years of development)

Damian Jones (I think he has good upside and more likely to reach his potential compared to Skal, Davis, any bigs who is not supposed to be picked in top 8 etc.)

Brice Johnson (athletic PF who may be able to improve his jump shot)

DeAndre Bembry (a versatile SF who could be a useful supporting cast)

Malik Beasley (a good replacement to Ross)

Yeah I know Masai said we don't need so many rookies, but I feel Jackson and Johnson can probably somewhat contribute immediately, while McCaw and Jones both represent high upside.

I also think that Jackson and McCaw's upsides are higher than Wright's, and Jones's upside is higher than Bebe's.

Why do people keep proposing trading down for two picks when it is crystal clear the team prefers to use only one pick...

Hoopshype had a pretty solid interview with Skal a couple days ago, didn't see it posted in the thread but the biggest part of the interview I thought was important to point out

What do you think is the key part for you during the draft process? The combine, the individual workouts with NBA teams, the interviews with executives?

SL: I would say the workouts with the teams, being able to showcase my skillset and show what I can do in the future. I think I have one of the highest upsides in the draft. In two or three years, I think I can be the best player in this draft. I’m still working. I think the workouts are going to be key for me. But also the interviews, just to get the chance to talk to the GMs so they get to know me a little better.

It's great to hear that from him because it probably means he understands that he needs to take time to develop and if he's willing to put that work in (be it some stints in the D League) for the betterment of his future, I'd have a lot of confidence taking him at 9

Rest of the interview

Rumour has it the Raps have interest in Isiah Whitehead. Looking for Norms. No guaranteed money, cheap contracts, ability to compete. Draft night blockbuster?

Blocks shots, rebounds, can shoot from the outside. Sign me up.

He's still the player that I want with the 9th pick.

Korkmaz, Luwawu and Jackson just behind them. Jackson is a reach this high though right now, so if there was a way to move down a couple spots and pick up a player(Masai doesn't want to add more than one rookie) that would be ideal. Could possibly say the same thing about Korkmaz.

Draftexpress has him ranked 26th. They could simply be looking to keep the 27th pick(Despite all their talk of wanting to deal it) and take Whitehead.

I think if we trade the ninth pick, it will be to acquire a current NBA player, not to trade down.

That kid Pat McCaw looks good for 27th - we desperately need shooting with Ross being traded on Draft night

I never understood why stocks rise during the pre draft process. It's easy to dominate when no ones guarding you lol

What they need to assess with Skal is whether or not he's a workout guy or a talented basketball player. Especially since his body of work at Kentucky doesn't make it clear.

Chad Ford Mock Draft

1. Ben Simmons (PHI)
2. Brandon Ingram (LAL)
3. Kris Dunn (BOS)
4. Marquese Chriss (PHX)
5. Jamal Murray (MIN)
6. Dragan Bender (NOP)
7. Jaylen Brown (DEN)
8. Buddy Hield (SAC)
9. Henry Ellenson (TOR)
Henry Ellenson Marquette Freshman Forward/center
I think the Raptors have been secretly hoping Chriss falls to them at No. 9 for a while. As he starts blowing up in workouts, that feels more and more like a dream.
Power forward is their biggest need and the choice will likely come down to Ellenson, Skal Labissiere, Deyonta Davis and Domantas Sabonis. You can make an argument for all four.
Labissiere is the best shooter and has the highest ceiling (but also the lowest floor). Ellenson gives you a lot more game, but without the same elite athleticism.

10. Dejounte Murray (MIL)
11. Skal Labissiere (ORL)
12. Jakob Poeltl (UTH)
13. Wade Baldwin IV (PHX)
14. Deyonta Davis (CHI)
15. Furkan Korkmaz (DEN)
16. Ante Zizic (BOS)
17. Ivica Zubac (MEM)
18. Denzel Valentine (DET)
19. Thon Maker (DEN)
20. Domantas Sabonis (IND)
21. Malachi Richardson (ATL)
22. Malik Beasley (CHA)
23. Cheick Diallo (BOS)
24. Tyler Ulis (PHI)
25. DeAndre Bembry (LAC)
26. Patrick McCaw (PHI)
27. Guerschon Yabusele (TOR)
Guerschon Yabusele France Age: 19 Forward
Yabusele is built like a brick house. He's one of the strongest players in the draft, but he's also skilled. He moves well despite his size and has a shot that goes all the way out to the 3-point line.
The Raptors love toughness and Yabusele brings that. And given the fact that this is the Raptors' second first-round pick, a draft-and-stash type player like Yabusele makes some sense.

28. Juan Hernangomez (PHX)
29. Demetrius Jackson (SAS)
30. Damian Jones (GSW)

I think if Masai decides to hold onto the pick and cant trade up for Murray and Chriss is gone by 9, he should swing for it and grab Skal.

Let the kid work his butt off in the 905 and add strength and keep improving his shot.
