All minutes and opportunities aren't equal. AG being strictly a garbage points guy does nothing for us knowing how much more capable he is. Mario having hardly any plays drawn up for him to get good looks doesn't do anything for us knowing what his ceiling is.
Those guys stood on the court in the most minimal fashion Skiles could craft for them, really. So no, I don't think they've been given substantial roles.
I think Vogel is going to tap into all the potential of those two in particular, plus he'll be able to give Payton a much more supportive season.
Taking it back to the original poll question, I think that will go a long way to restoring balance in development, and pulling back from the 2-3 man show of primarily Vuc, Dipo and Fournier. Defensively, Vogel knows how to build a strong defense, so I anticipate balance being restored on that front (or order, at the very least). Offensively, I hope that Vogel will have more to offer other than Vuc long 2's, Fournier running off curls and some Oladipo ISOs.
So, really when you say "our young guys," you mean Hezonja and Gordon, as Payton, Dipo, and Fournier are all also quite young. And Gordon was 5th on the team in total FGAs. Only Dipo, Payton, Fournier, and Vooch took more shots for us.
Look, I love Gordon and Hezonja too, but I can see who they are at this point in their careers. They need to play enough to get a sense for what they need to work on in the off season, but if free minutes beyond that were going to magically make them better, Payton and Dipo would be stars by now.
Boom. More minutes doesn't equal improvement. This has been prove wrong over and over. The guys improve in the offseason and will get minutes if they're earned.
You guys are clearly missing the point. It's not about total minutes or field goals, it's the opportunity and role within which they're used. Vuc, Oladipo and Fournier already have plays designed for them, and what I'm talking about is getting Gordon and Hezonja to that point, too.
Yeah, there's still development that needs to happen for the other 3 and Payton. It's not mutually exclusive, nor has anyone said as much.
