I'm with RZ on the ulterior motive. I think he's too self righteous and thinks he's too big of a star to be a company man for the #2 MMA organization. He'll keep working major events without Bellator, sadly. Commissions don't hold refs very accountable. They just keep picking from the same finite pool.
If there is a bias here toward Matt, it's because BJM has interacted with him many times before, with the MMA community being so small and tight-knit in relative terms. We talk about that as one of the negatives of former fighters reffing, but it must happen frequently with refs and fighters who've been on the big stage for many years. Whereas he may have never met Carl Samoan before, or at least remembered it.
The issue of allowing Mitrione to fight a few weeks later is a separate one, and yes, very shady, and troubling as well. Concussion tests are so varied and classifications so subjective that in the non extreme cases a party can get whatever result they want if they're motivated. But it's pretty common sense that it was a concussion, and regardless, he shouldn't be fighting a few weeks later. The show must go on...
