but what I don't get is it really just a lack of wins that is keeping fans away? or is there something more?

the reason I ask is because many teams who have much fewer wins than us in recent years still have far better attendance. why can other teams go through 5+ years of being horrible and not get hurt at ticket sales like we did? (and its only been 3 years after 10 playoff years).

so I dont think its only winning percentage which leads to fans showing up or not. it definitely helps obviously, but there are other factors involved IMO.

if the nuggets surprise this year, win 45 games and make the playoffs is the PC suddenly packed again?

It's a lack of a competitive team and a lack of recognizable talent.

Name the teams that have horrible seasons yet still have high ticket sales? Knicks, Lakers, Celtics....all teams with very storied pasts and players, unlike the Nuggets. Just because I'm a fan doesn't mean I owe it to the team to attend games. We all work hard for our money, I'm not just going to throw it away attending pointless Nuggets games. Face it, the Nuggets aren't good right now, until they are or they add a face people know the stands will be empty.

makes sense.

but then how do teams like new orleans, philadelphia, sacramento, and phoenix have more attendance than us?

N.O.- Anthony Davis

Philly- Only had 800 more fans on average...in a much larger, urban, basketball-oriented city. Seems reasonable

Sacramento- D Cousins and the sideshow that goes with him

Phoenix- Not sure, I do like the Gorilla tho

Denver also has presents a very diverse entertainment options for the avg person. We have 4 major sports teams, several minor level teams as well. The outdoor options, theme parks, etc

So it's up to the Nuggets to put a good product on the court. 18,000 just a few years ago - several years in a row

I was with you until you said theme parks, lol. Just so happens Silent Stan bought Elitch's not too long ago. I'll bet within 5 years the park is gone and he develops that land, huge gold mine. A fan zone with shops, restaurants and hotels would def get more folks to Pepsi Center events.

Wow, Stan BOUGHT Elitches ??? Did not know that! He's got his hands in most everybody's disposable income.

Yeah Kroenke's ownership of Eliches and the land it sits on is probably the #1 reason he won't be selling and/or moving the Nuggets (or Avs/Mammoth/whatever else) anytime soon. Like Powder Blue said, that location there along the Platte is an absolute gold mine. He's going to make a fortune by developing that space into high-rise apartments, shops, bars, restaurants, hotels, etc. someday. Surely that'd help the attendance numbers too.

as a non-denver native, what is eliches?

are you guys predicting the area around the PC will get developed (which would be HUGE for the fan base IMO)? i really hope they make the area a lot more fun to hang out (bars, restaurants, etc)

Elitch Gardens is an amusement park - I first saw it back in the 1970s at their original (I think) location. They've moved to a better location, the old one is a bunch of town houses and condos. The "new" location is close to downtown and will be worth a few trainloads of money - long trains. For a while, Six Flags bought it, but the Nuggets/Avalanche owner bought it.

Seat Prices has been mentioned more than once - so I ran some numbers - if my numbers are wrong, please correct them
I rounded numbers off
Assuming 40 games and 20,000 seats; each team is selling 800,000 seats per year

The Nuggets current pricing scale averages out to $52 per ticket or $41,000,000 per year --- that sure doesn't seem like ticket prices are a significant source of income when we look at the TV revenue and other basketball revenue

For the following, I used http://www.statista.com/statistics/193720/average-ticket-price-in-the-nba-by-team-in-2010/

The Nuggets currently have the 14th highest average ticket price in the NBA.

If they dropped their ticket prices $10 per seat, they would have the 21st average price and it would cost them roughly $4,000,000 revenue per year.

If they dropped their ticket prices $20 per seat, they would have the 26th average price and it would cost them roughly $8,000,000 revenue per year.

Sure seems like the fans are not being unreasonable in saying "lower the ticket prices".
