I think that's a pretty lazy take. We sure as hell didn't punt on Frank at 9 last year, we could have gotten some real assets for that.

I know we were trying to trade up and obviously didn't like the guys in our range, but we made this trade before the draft had even begun. Lazy, poor work on the part of our front office.

yosemiteben wrote:Makes zero sense to trade the 22 before the draft started absent talks of a larger deal. Cho has never traded a first round pick before the draft. Doesn't add up.

yosemiteben wrote:That's possible, probably the most likely scenario, but then SAC loses the 22 (which is really good value for Belinelli). What kind of leverage did they really have there?
Right now I think it's clear we didn't maximize value in that trade. Even if there was a contingent deal that fell through, was it really worth that risk?
I'm not too mad because the fallout is all speculative. If Belinelli bounces back I won't be upset at all and this could still turn out to be a great move. If he's just meh, then this becomes a black mark on Cho's trade record.

When did he say this? Especially not using 22 for a prospect?

He didn't say the part about not using the 22. But he said that they explored all options and the other options were "too expensive" I believe during the press conference on draft day when he made the trade announcement.

Our seven players under contract, the three acquisitions, and three cap holds put us right at the cap threshold. We'll exceed the cap when Batum, Marvin, and maybe Daniels officially sign. And the Roberts will be added for the minimum.
Still have the Room MLE of $2.898M.
