Who was he talking to about Paul Zipser's contract negotiations in public within earshot of fans?

It tells us that is why guys like Pax and Thibs have Gar and Layden. They have to do the dirty work and can't mess up because a million more to Zipser might make them inflexible next year or this year. It also tells there is no break for these guys.....stressful.

We don't know what Gar is really good at as a GM. Is it contracts, salary cap manipulation, free agency and agent relationships, scouting?

That's why we heard Thibs hired Layden.... to do the contracts. This might not be Gar's expertise or it might just be a bad situation(Zipser)

With the big money being given out, the new art is finding the next E'Twaun type and getting a rotation guy on a tiny contract for as many years as you can

Zipser probably sees these free agent dollars and already sees himself as being worth half as much as Allen Crabbe if he can be half as talented as Allen Crabbe. lol.

They are trying to do a 2 year fully guarantee deal and then 2 years non guarantee after that. Sounds like zipster agent is hard balling them. Also gar mentioned something about jerry thinking that the contracts being thrown out is stupid. He kept mentioning whiteheads from Brooklyn contract. Gar Foreman really like Zipster but seems really frustrated with his people. Won't mention anything more as I don't think I've should've been ease dropping into their conversation.

This thread is an instant classic!

Nice call Wonderboy!..

Wonderboy getting some traction from the Twitter-verse too:

I'd wear a hoodie and lay low for the next couple days. You never know, the Gar Squad might be scouring the arenas of Las Vegas Summer League looking for the leak!

If Wonderboy had worn a Iowa State/New Mexico hoodie, he might be working for the Bulls by now.

Excellent sleuth work...

So surely now you can tell us what else was discussed, Wonderboy. If Gar's dumb enough to air out his dirty laundry in a public setting with other basketball fans, then hard to feel bad for him.

wonderboy2, awesome work! And please share anything else! We're starving for inside info!

Just to backup wonderboy2 even more, I sat literally the seat in front of Gar during Summer League (I was with Doug "The Great" Thonus, which might have been more exhilarting!). This was the year we drafted Taj and James Johnson.

It was fun hearing the guy next to Gar (Matt Loyd probably) commentate on summer league players as if we were all sitting at a bar together. For the record, I was wearing a Bulls jersey, so it was obvious we were Bulls fans and it didn't hold Loyd back from making comments.

Doug even talked to Gar about his podcast and blog. Gar was asking Doug some questions (I wasn't there for this part) as if to test Doug's knowledge. When Doug proved himself, I believe Gar asked him where he could find Doug's blog.

HomoSapien wrote:The Grizzlies just handed out Deyonta Davis a big contract, and that might have made this more complicated for the Bulls, especially if Zipser really is regarded as a nice prospect around the league. I wouldn't criticize his agent though --- it's his job to squeeze every penny out of the Bulls that he can.

I always wondered this but never found the answer/never asked about it here. Why did Davis fall so hard? I remember he was projected as high as top 10 in the draft, then fell all the way to the 2nd round. Same thing that happened to DeAndre Jordan.

wonderboy was actually lurking in the shadows of Gar's living room. :D

Yes, worrying about signing a player you drafted is one of the many things the FO should worry about and want to get done.
