Except that's not how it works, the Chris Paul trade was vetoed because at the time, the Hornets were collectively owned by all the other owners.

What in the ****? You guys are discussing tampering? This league gives no **** about tampering.

The boredom/wait for news or no news has reached a new low. We need to hear something.

Everyone, even the reputable guys, are pointing towards this weekend as being some sort of milestone. I know the Celtics are, for the most part, pulling out of Las Vegas today. Not that it changes things, but certainly easier to get stuff done.

I heard from one guy, who isn't exactly a true source, that Ainge, Zarren and Stevens were not going right back to Boston but would be going to LA first. Now that doesn't mean a whole lot because I know for a fact that Doc is in Orlando right now with his family.

My educated guess is that something happens this weekend, but we'll see.

Why would they go to LA if it wasn´t for some sort of paperwork? Can they meet with Griffin when he is under contract with another team?

I think they can if they have permission to do so ...

They're going down there to try and sell him on picking up his option as part of a macro play for another star. They will also talk med recs on the quad. His compliance in this is the key to this trade.

Can't the league grant exceptions to the tampering rule anyways? I thought that, if granted permission, a team could talk to a player they'd potentially trade for in regards to a contract extension. I think that's how it worked with KG and that's why/how he signed a 3 year extension immediately following the trade. For all I know, that's changed in the last 9 years but I could see it taking place.

To be fair we're coming after Cleveland trade or not.

Yeah, but at least after the trade we may not get our teeth kicked in.

What could the sell possibly be on picking up the option. It's completely illogical for him to do so.... Unless of course his injury is chronic but then why would we trade for him....

I hope this doesn't hinge on the option cuz it really doesn't make sense for him to pick it up...

Except that is how it works. The league can stop trades from happening with or without ownership of a team. There was a bunch of talk over whether they would block a Kevin Love trade to the Cavs. The whole **** over the Paul thing was a question of a conflict of interest.

And the league doesn't really care about tampering in regards to early discussions with players who are about to become FAs right before the deadline, but they definitely do in regards to teams meeting in person with someone under contract with another team. Which is why this whole notion of them going to meet him is ridiculous lol. When have we ever heard of a team doing that?

Yeah but we'll have a much improved Crowder, healthy Bradley and Thomas, and better support cast - and Al freakin Horford, compared to the 2015 playoffs. Not that anyone expects us to beat Cleveland but we've been the underdogs ever since... well the 80's.

So per Sieve/Mike, we WIN the trade and are able to challenge the Cavs for East supremacy while the Clippers also get a better chance of beating the Warriors. Also, Boogie is not in play. I just can't see how that can happen. Or I need a new trade machine.

Has anything like this ever happened? Random dude on Twitter exposing a deal a week before it happens with this level of self-confidence?

Return to Boston Celtics
