Zach Lowe or David Thorpe, cant remember, suggested this last season, and so far, its the alternative i like best to the current system. Gives small market or rebuilding teams the ability to outbid more established teams for a true franchise player.

True, I think its a solid idea. I just hope there isnt a crazy overreaction by owners in the cba negotiations that harms the product cause theyre salty over the warriors adding KD and stuff.

Teams already have that advantage of offering more money to their own free agents that they have bird rights on. It's not other team's faults for incompetent management. The owners already overreacted to us adding the Big 3 in the 2011 negotiations, they will to this. OKC lost KD with their cheap ways, didn't want to spend much until KD is about to become a free agent while they have one of the richest owners in the NBA who is also one of the richest in the world. I've seen OKC fans say that the CBA cost them Harden, no it didn't. If your owner didn't want to pay Harden to keep Westbrook/Harden/Durant/Ibaka together, then you deserve to lose them. There's no doubt Westbrook is gone next...
A little story about KD-Russ after the 2011 playoffs, KD was about to ask for Russell to be traded but backed off to try and make that work. Don't know if that Rondo/Green for Westbrook/Perkins trade had anything to do with that though.

What? Bird rights? Kd just turned down his bird rights to join the warriors. If you make an agreed upon max for every team and have it come from profits and not count the full dollar amount against the cap, more small market teams will have and keep their stars. This isn't an overreaction. Small market teams are suffering without a top talent. Cavs just went and bought a chip. Look at how high they were above the cap. No small market could sensibly afford that. Lebron nets that city over 1 billion. And thats before he won there. That has to stop. Or else owners are just going to start buying finals appearances the way the Cavs did, and the way the Warriors will. We weren't even that high over the cap during our run.
It is favorable when it is your team that is doing the winning though. So I don't put any fault or shame on Cavs or gsw or any of our fans who would not invite that level of change. But I feel for the small market fans who never get to taste that level of success.

Q: Is this Erik Spoelstra’s year? The year he really has to prove himself? The year he doesn’t have to placate a superstar? The year he runs his offense te way he wants, up and down the court, with speed and ball movement? No more iso-ball? -- Yunasi, Miami Beach
A: First, Erik Spoelstra doesn't have to prove himself to anyone. He has coached championship rosters to championships, developmental rosters to the playoffs, and last season's mixed bag to a No. 4 playoff seed and within one game of the Eastern Conference finals. But I do believe this could be the first time that Spoelstra will have the opportunity to truly put his stamp on a team. When he arrived, he still was working in the shadows of Pat Riley. After those two seasons, it was about setting up what essentially stood as LeBron James' team. From there it was two seasons of being unable to finish what he had started with Chris Bosh. This season, you could see something close to what Brad Stevens has produced with the Celtics, or even what Terry Stotts produced last season with the Trail Blazers. In both of those situations, the pressure was down but the possibilities were pronounced. I do agreed that we might get a truer read on Erik Spoelstra this season than we have previously.
