So my media for this pick will be an homage to Lamar.
This was probably the hardest pick I have had all draft. There were about 3 other guys I was deciding between. It all came down to need, category scarcity, and the fact that this guy could easily be a starter for me(and just might be).
Terry Cummings, 82-83, Forgotten Cities
This also happens to be his rookie year. And he set his career high in points, rebounds, and steals. He averaged a cool 24/11/3/2/1 on 52.3% shooting and was rookie of the year.
He's a power forward that can still stretch the floor even though he didn't shoot threes. At 6'9'' he could handle the ball on the wing and was deadly from midrange, even off the dribble. If defenders tried to press up on him, he could rip through and blow past them with his athleticism to the hoop.
Here is Cummings going coast to coast showing his athleticism and ability to control the basketball.
In my big men I have wanted versatility. Guys that bring different things to the table, but can still be cohesive. I think I have continued that trend with Cummings here. He can take the ball on the wing and shoot and still come inside and finish down low. He can mold and mesh with the other bigs I already have on the team. And depending on matchups with he and Rodman we can figure out a starting rotation. Yeah Cummings was a top draft pick, but as a rookie he can maybe be convinced that he shouldn't start over two hall of famers.
The one piece of evidence that caused me pause on this pick.
I can't have teammates fighting. But with high character guys all around this team and more to add I think we can settle the beef between Cummings and Rodman.
Not every day you can get a 24 and 11 guy in the 7th round, and also possibly a starter. I'll take it.
