It was tied 2-2 going to the bottom of the 9th. Buck Showalter brought in...Zach Britton, for two innings. He held us scoreless, and the Orioles won in extras.
Now, in a single-game elimination, with literally the same scoreline and situation, he opts to leave Britton unused, and they lose.
Indeed, and there is also this. Jimenez pitches to Edwin, rather than walking him intentionally. Jose is next and he's 3-38 against Ubaldo. Since only the runner on third matters, there would have been no harm in walking Edwin
I actually disagree. It would load the bases, opening up a decent chance that Ubaldo and his wildness would walk in the winning run. Which would be less of an issue if Ubaldo **** Jimenez wasn't out there.

You gotta remember that we had a less than healthy JD on second and EE (the slowest runner on the team on first). What if Bautista (a guy not used to bunting at all) messes the bunt up? He could easily bunt to the pitcher or close to the catcher and JD could be forced out at third. Worst case scenario could also be a double play at second and first. Having a team full of sluggers like we do really limits the stuff you can do when it comes to playing small ball.

Nah. You get a banner now, and write "2016 ALDS" on it for the time being, and fill in either "winner" or "runner-up" in a week.

id rather the what if scenario of messing a bunt up than the what if scenario of striking out or the what if scenario of grounding into a double play (both of which happened in that same inning.)

Ramako wrote:But that then raises the question of why not raise an "ALDS Winner" banner for 2015 as well, or even in place of the division banner?
