Re: PG Thread: Only Reason To Watch This Year Is KP6
Reading the snide comments from NY "sports journalists" via twitter amused me after ONE preseason game. Never mind the Knicks were missing their best defensive player. I thought Derrick Rose was moving really well, enough to show me that he has complete confidence in his body. Another bonus, he is distributing the ball. The Knicks' 3 had almost even # of shots. KP6 was definitely showing that he's improved the range and consistency with his shot, also he hasn't forgotten how to get back on defense.
Over to the Rockets, the joke on Harden, he can't be a point guard is switching places.
My one worry is the Knicks' depth...

Did any of you notice his release is much more fluid? Last season his release had a more hesitant feel. Shooting with confidence is a very good thing to have. Once PJax gave him the green light to shoot 3s to his heart's content, you know he was shooting with confidence.
My prediction of 18/10/2.5 blks is going to come true!

Re: PG Thread: Only Reason To Watch This Year Is KP6
I kind of expected defense to look like trash especially with Noah out. Team defense is like 75% communication and chemistry, rest is a mix of individual effort and talent. With the roster turnover and the most vocal defensive captain out it wasn't gonna look good. My biggest concerns for season are depth and offensive philosophy. I am still not clear what kind of offense knicks are trying to run really. The media is full of so many ignorant people though and many who are ex players which is alarming. For example a common trope is that anything that looks bad = triangle, lmao.

Jennings is a nut. Need him to play in control and be able to pick his spots off the bench. At least its only a 1 year deal. He is gonna be one of those players that is going to drive alcohol sales at the neighborhood liquor store just for me.
We really need Noah though. Our defense will be bad without him.
Wow it's crazy how people see games so differently. I thought Jennings played well for most part. He's a high energy guy. It seemed to me he was a play or two ahead of most of his teammates, lol.
Jennings looked good in a sense of getting to the basket and getting past his man, but a few of his shots reminded me of Jr. Smith. Just looked like he was excited though it was his first game I'm sure he'll play more under control next game.
Jennings is great penetrating into the lane. He looks 100% healthy. He usually plays a bit more under control...he was probably rusty.
The one thing we have to get used to though is that he's not a great finisher in the half-court. He'll miss his fair share of layups and short shots once he gets into the paint.

Not to mention the movement of the ball was great, just no one outside of KP and Rose was making consistent shots.

You must have amnesia because we sucked in the pick and roll with him too. In fact all we did was switch on every other play and get burned.
True the switching was obnoxious but not everybody collapsed when the ball handler would attack. They trusted Tyson in rim protection and the defenders had enough discipline to control their man and not collapse and leave their man wide open.
Huh? We had zero discipline on defense under Woodson. Noah didn't play last night...there's a big difference between Tyson's mobility/rim protection and KOQ's. The Rockets will be tough for most teams to defend this season. It's just the 1st game of the preseason, and we didn't even have a defensive game plan last night.

Re: PG Thread: Only Reason To Watch This Year Is KP6
The wild card game last night was great!
Ok, just watched the game. I made some notes during the game like I normally would do in the game thread.
1st Qt
That 1st foul on KP. How was that not an offensive foul and any different than the OF on Melo? Anderson drove his head right into KP’s chest?
I hate away commentators. Again with the “KP was booed on draft night” garbage, and then they followed it up with the boos turned to cheers about halfway through the season! Clueless.
I spotted a Knick pg kicking it out to the 3 point line!
Again on the offensive foul on Melo! WTF?
I saw another pg kickout!!!
End of 1st quarter – shooting was way off, but we’re working hard.
2nd Qt
Boy, Willy is looking like an NBA player right away. Kid is huge.
Melo looking like Melo, and Rose looking good too!
Seeing too many mid range shots again
KP with the dirty crossover and jumper!!!!!
Where in the hell is the ball movement and faster pace?
Harden would be 40% of the player he is if not for BS calls (and IT too for that matter)
KP with the dirty dunk
3rd Qt
KP with the smooth corner 3
KP again with the 3!!!!
KP the god child!!! He really is looking stronger out there. He’s a bit gassed, but not like last year.
Prediction: KP in the 3 point contest this year
Melo has disappeared now and is looking like a role player
Rose mid range/outer paint game is looking fantastic
KP’s uniform sponsored by untuckit.com
We’re really missing a big in the paint. Can’t wait to see Noah.
4th Qt
Boy, we look terrible on D in general. Slow, flat footed, getting beat all over the place.
It is now amateur hour…….
Ndour is pretty active defensively. He’s clearly trying to prove that he can contribute. If the whole team played this game like him we wouldn’t have been blown out
Plumlee would be an accountant if he wasn’t tall
Baker sighting!
Kuz looking great so far. What took so long?

Yep - same thing stood out to me in terms of Melo approach.
Can see Melo thinking I got a legit PG now so I'm going to get my buckets.
It took about 1 minute and KP's 1st block to realize franchise is in KPs hands now and for long haul -- stay healthy unicorn.
It's only game 1 of preseason and I am not concerned about this going forward, I know Melo is a smart player and will figure this out. Here is what I feel like was the biggest difference between Olympic Melo and Knicks Melo, he trusts the talent on the Olympic team and comes out sharing the ball and waits for the offense to come to him. On the Knicks, he feels like it is his team so he goes out and tries to establish himself first, then he begins to defer to his teammates. I want him to play like he does in the Olympics, he has the talent this year to do trust the other players to make plays and let the offense find him. Often times the Knicks come out and force the ball to Melo and look at him to get them going, I want to see that change. It really needs to work the other way around. He needs to look to get the other guys going first, it will only make the game easier for him because the focus will shift. The reason the Knicks looked better in the 2nd half was because they didn't look to feature Melo, they gave the ball to Rose and Melo was either in the corner or helping KP get free by setting screens for him to curl. They need to let Rose run the show and Melo needs to have trust that his shots will come within the flow. He doesn't need to set the tone, let Rose and KP set the tone and then trust that your shots will come, but first look to get those guys in a rhythm first and foremost.

He's capable especially if he's playing the 5 more which he will this season. But yes he does spend a lot of time on perimeter which of course means less boards. This will especially become a factor if Noah is out. If Noah is out Knicks will rely more on him instead of Joakim to close shooters out.

jeff can fix it. I think he jumps too high on his shot, but you're right in that the motion needs some tweaks
He needs to keep the ball in front instead of pulling it back over his head when shooting. It will cut down the motion. speed up his release and make it more consistent.
