Wasn't he originally scheduled to return in Jan or Feb this year? He will be 38 soon, now injured.

edit: Not to derail the thread.

You don't see that every day. They almost always have went thru with it anyways. They need to have better backup plans. Could have just had Derrick Lewis or Sam Alvey carry the card. It's only delaying their path of destruction to a title. Guess they and others will bolster subsequent cards.

I think this is only the third ufc card ever to be canceled. Big shocker that the f*ckin' sport killer Greg Jackson has been in the corner of 2 of the 3 main event guys who have withdrew and caused the cancellation. :D

Glad I made the thread before they cancelled it.

Not sure why they couldn't have gone forward with the card here. It's not on a network and it is being held in a place that rarely gets any UFC. I'd have to think the fans there would prefer a main event-less card to no card at all. Strange decision.

Luke Thomas said that the culture in the Philippines is to walk up and buy tickets at the door, as opposed to buying in advance. So the theory is that the people wouldn't even bother to walk up to the door without Penn.

Still not sure I buy it. They have tv partners there, they paid the fighters anyway, I'm sure they had some deposit style payment to the venue already, pissed off the market, etc. What's the downside? Obviously this event sans Penn doesn't sell any fight pass subscriptions.

Apparently the government over there required all UFC employees to be drug tested. Some people think that has something to do with it. :dontknow: The idea would be funnier if that country wasn't so messed up.

Love BJ, but I hope he stays retired. I thought he retired too late the last time anyways.

Just watched an interview with Cole Miller, said he received less than a third of his show money for this event. So the implication that they paid the fighters their show money for this event was unsurprisingly BS.
