Could be another Sully situation if he can be had for the room exception, can sign 1+1.

Downside is his agent, BJ Armstrong whom Ainge had a bad experience with a year ago with McGee.

Is this making a trend for Armstrong as an agent?

He was a bad player, now a worse agent.

Not necessarily. Montiejunas' QO was for $3.4M. It's certainly plausible to think that he is worth more than that in today's open market. The non-taxpayer mid level is $5.6M and the taxpayer mid-level is nearly $3.5M. Why should Motiejunas leave money on the table?

The fly in the ointment is his back. No team will extend an offer sheet if they don't think he can pass a physical.

At this point, there are so few teams with any cap space left. And none of them really need him. I was thinking that he might be best to wait it out, see if Miami can get Bosh's salary off their books in February and make an offer. He would fit nicely there.

You don't need cap space to use one of the exceptions. That's why I brought them up.

Only 4 teams have used the MLE so far, although nine teams are under the cap so don't have one. Some of those teams may go over if they sign more players.

Because almost every team went under the cap this summer, all they have left is the Room Exception. You don't get the Non-Taxpayer or Taxpayer MLE back if you go over the cap. Once it is gone, it is gone. Same with the Bi-Annual.

If Motiejunas was willing to play for just under $3 million, he likely would have signed the QO. I can't see him signing for so little, since Houston would likely match it and keep him.

His QO was 4.4 mil so he is likely trying to force HOU to waive him in a roster crunch as they would have to waive Pablo Prigioni or some other real person on the roster to sign him. Other than that the only angle is going overseas which while obviously an option it would seem to have made sense to have done already.

I understand wanting more money but letting the QO expire with as little leverage as he has doesn't make a ton of sense.

From Bulpett:
There is nothing to any rumors that the Celtics will wind up with free agent J.R. Smith. But they did speak to him last July. At that time, the C’s learned that Smith’s desire was to stay with Cleveland.

Even if he were deemed a fit now, the Celts would have to do too much roster gymnastics to make it work.

EDIT: JR Smith back to Cavs for $57M/4 years. Sixers made a push for him.

Lol i still cant believe the team looks like this. Such a huge radical change. Amazing to sit back and think about where we were before the IT trade, and before we dumped rondo.

In retrospect, would you have wanted to trade up for him?

(Should we assume that it would have costs #s 16, 23, & 35, and that Zizic wouldn't have been available at 31?)

Sully is a good player with talent. He is also a player like KO that can't be counting on in playoffs games. Sully because of this conditioning issues, KO because of his lack of heart/guts.

Sully at 240-250 pounds in a Kevin Love type of player with better defense. But Sully had issues that kept with from playing at that weight and taking his game to the next level.

Yes, 1,000,000 times out of 1,000,000. It was a no brainier consolation move

Just dreamt that Darko Milicic pulled off a Stone Cold Stunner on Leandro Barbosa while the Brazilian Blur was going up for a layup. They were reviewing the play when I woke up.

Regular season needs to start already.
