Adrian Wojnarowski @WojVerticalNBA 2m2 minutes ago
Others in talks on four-year extensions include Minnesota's Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng and Charlotte's Cody Zeller.

Sources: OKC engaged with Steven Adams, Victor Oladipo reps on rookie extension talks. Discussing Adams $100M-range, Oladipo $80M-range.
so Cody in the 60m range? ew

Cody in 60 million range would be solid. 4 years 60 would be fine with me

Re: Woj: Charlotte working on Zeller extension
If we can get Zeller on the same contract we got Marvin Williams on I'll be happy. 4/60 is on the high end of what I'd consider a decent contract.

Rivals know these players would get offer sheets matched by original teams in RFA, but several watching Zeller talks closely and here's why:

If no Zeller extension, teams may be aggressive on offer sheets. Many privately wonder how far Michael Jordan will take Charlotte payroll.

not surprising, but twitter reactions to Zeller possibly getting big deal are all negative. Everyone just sees a goofy white dude who doesn't put up big stats.

so basically they think MJ is going to be cheap. understandable, small market non-contenders cant have that big a payroll.

Re: Woj: Charlotte working on Zeller extension
We're not the deepest of teams and after the way this past offseason went where we loss more talent than we added I don't blame MJ for just biting the bullet now since Cody is a valuable piece to what we do since he runs like a deer, has a great motor, constantly set screens, and has good defensive awareness.

Re: Woj: Charlotte working on Zeller extension
The issue with Zeller has nothing to do with MJ being willing to spend and much more with managing our cap space. If he wants an extension significantly higher than his cap hold, then we should pass on the extension, use the space on a FA, then just match whatever we have to to keep him.

Re: Woj: Charlotte working on Zeller extension
The main problem is that having Cody here is fine, but not necessary as the main center. He would arguably be the best rotation at 5 in the league, and a perfect back up in case of injury.
Yet, the game changing center will require some money to throw at, its unlikely that the Hornets will find a hibbert like contract for the defensive anchor they need here during next offseason.

Re: Woj: Charlotte working on Zeller extension
All things being equal 5's that can defend 4's should be compensated above face value. Case in point playing next to Hawes with Frank out, starting next to Marvin when Roy sat.
And definitely not a small thing during the playoffs when rotations shorten. His versatility could be the difference between getting starter level production or being forced into deeper rotation minutes.

Disagree completely I think Cody could 100% be starting center of contending team. It's not like there is more than 10 good centers out there anyway.

Drummond
Howard
Horford
Cousins
Jordan
Gobert
Whiteside
Towns
Adams
Lopez
and that's not even close to all of them. Let's not pretend Zeller is in the same league as any of them

I'm not saying that, all I said was that Cody could be the starting center of a contending team. All 10 of those players you named are not on teams that have a likely chance of winning the title, some even are going to struggle to make the playoffs.
I don't think it's unfathomable for Cody to have a Tristan Thompson like impact on the game at the high end of his projection.

Not to pick and choose, but you'd be hard pressed to get me to agree that Howard, Adams, and either Lopez are any more valuable than Cody is at this point.

Adams is rumored to be in talks for a 100 million contract. We better hope Cody isn't as valuable as Adams.

Good point. Whats his cap hold?
