Whiffed on Durant, obviously. But at least came close to getting Horford. And most people thought signing Nicholson was a good move, which I didn't understand in the slightest. Most people thought signing Jason Smith was a good move, which I also didn't understand. And most people thought trading a R2 pick some years out for ex-lottery pick Trey Burke, a move I really hated, was good as well.
I do think a lot of people were ??? on Mahinmi -- a good player, but a lot of money for a backup given our needs.
You could think of the off season as having begun w/ the trade of our R1 pick for Morris, another bad move most people liked.
But, hey, no worries: we're 8-3, right? Oh... wait a minute.
Reading back through the offseason thread, I think most people either had a "wait and see" or a "what the $*^@%" attitude.
Speaking for myself, I wanted this group to get enough burn to see all these moves amounted to anything, although I was not optimistic. I am still not optimistic about the future of this team. I think we are wasting away prime years for Wall. We have not put a team together that can take advantage of the strengths he brings. This past offseason, we overpaid for players, lost a pick, and made it even more difficult for us to make moves to improve.
Morris was an ok move, but I think the cost was high.
If there was any time that we needed a fresh new outlook, it is now. It begins with the GM. We need an identity...are we a half court team, or a 3 point shooting team, or a running team, or ??. We have a bunch of players that dont really mesh right now. Time to blow it up.
