I dont know whether its the players, or the coaching. If Walton can get players like Nick Young and Lou Williams to play within a system, then really... theres no excuse for Watson not being able to instill any sort of offence with Bledsoe and Knight.
I wish we had Walton as our coach right now.
I like McD but he may have now missed it twice when it comes to coaching. Hornacek over Budenholzer/Kerr and now Watson over Walton.
Lakers don't do yoga, they actually try and run sets in practice so they know what to do in games.
I'm not a fan of Watson thus far, but he is young, and seems to identify with the players well. His rotations disgust me, but I'm waiting to see what happens if McD forces his hand by dealing some of Watson's man crushes like Tucker and Knight.
That said, we have drafted very well over McD's tenure. Booker and Warren are close to being All-Star level players. Bender and Chriss have boatloads of potential. I don't understand the pessimism some have with them. Bender could be Kirilinko on roids with a better jumper and higher skill level. Chriss's raw athleticism puts no real limit on his upside and he can already shoot the 3 well which is the main issue with most raw, young bigs, and is the thing many NEVER develop. Most youngsters can't defend at an NBA level (Bender is the exception, but for some reason never plays). Chriss has been playing very few years of organized ball. Give him 3 years. His D may improve a ton. TJ sucked at defense as a rookie with more experience and he is far from a liability on that end at this point.
McD isn't the problem. I'm fine with us sucking this year. In fact, the best thing for us is to suck so badly we get a top 3 pick--maybe luck into Markelle Fultz and then see what this team looks like. If you're upset because Minnesota has a better roster, well, they've lucked into 2 monumental, obvious 1st overall picks, and 1 of them they only got because he refused to sign with Lebron's incredibly stupid agent, thus leading to the Kevin Love trade.
We have gotten really good value with the picks we have had and have drafted as well as nearly anybody despite having late lotto picks for most of McD's tenure. What we need more than anything is to draft well. If we still suck in 2 years with 2 more great drafts then make the move for the team builder who can get you a more balanced roster when you have the talent to win. Firing McD now, with the Miami picks staring us down in a couple years, would be an absolute disaster imo. Keep the drafter. Build slowly. Let's just hope that come the trade deadline some of the dead weight gets moved.
