Definitely not as superstar talent laden as this class. Some good players though. Bamba is the one I get most excited about. He's got about as much bust potential as boom potential though.
I just noticed that Porter chose Washington. What is going on up there that's bringing in the top names? I'll have to do some research. They keep on getting guys, and haven't done much to suggest that type of appeal.
Ya I love Bamba as a prospect. I consider him Gobert but with Anthony Davis athleticism. If his latest measurements hold up Bamba will have the longest wingspan in the NBA. I think that class has about 4 guys that have a chance to be studs with Bamba, Ayton, Porter and Duval. After that I think its a small drop off to Carter who doesnt have the ceiling as those guys but a solid player than a pretty big drop off. Also those top 4 guys have some pretty big question marks. Ayton has huge motor question marks, that dude disappears way to much for his size and talent. Can Bamba do anything other than block shots, Porter plays a little stiff and soft, big questions with his handle (I could easily see him being Harrison Barnes 2.0) and Duval and that ugly jumper. PGs need to be able shoot now adays.
So I like the top 4 guys or so, just not the lock super stars like we have this year and a pretty big drop off after 4 or 5 unlike this year were its just a gradual drop till the end of the lottery.
When it comes to Porter and Washington, Romar (the head coach) is his godfather and his dad was just hired as an assistant earlier this year. That recruitment was never really up for debate, everyone knew he was going to end up there.
Nice synopsis. Definitely some solid performers, but no superstars.
I had no idea that Porter's father was the HC. Thanks for the info.
His dad is an assistant coach. His godfather is the head coach.
I definitely think there could be some superstars in this class.
Ayton has all the tools to be a better version of Towns in all honesty. Hes just a bigger stronger version of him when it comes to skills. That motor and IQ is the question with him. Some times he looks like the best big prospect since Oden.
Again with Bamba I see him as a more athletic version of Gobert. So I could see him come in and by year 2 or 3 starting a reign of DPOY awards. But can he ever become an offensive threat? He does have really good shooting touch.
Porter just looks like Barnes 2.0. Great straight line and vertical athlete with a great looking jumper. But can he become a little more fluid and improve his dribble so he can create his own shot.
Duval looks to be a mix of Kyrie and Rose. Has Kyrie's handles (maybe better than Kyrie at this stage) and Kyrie's layup ability. He also has Rose type athleticism, may not have quite the hops but his speed and quickness mixed with body type is very much like Rose at this age. But he also has a jumper like Rose and that is a big question mark now adays for a PG.
Ill toss in Carter as well, doesnt have the potential like those 4, but he looks like almost like a mix between Horford and Cousins. I think he has all star potential but not superstar potential.
After those there really isnt much to get excited about. Troy Brown, Knox and Diallo could intrigue some people but its a pretty steep drop off. I dont think any of those 3 guys would go lottery in this upcoming draft.
So long story short, I see the potential with the top 4-5 guys, they just have a lot more of wiggle room of how good they actually wind up being. The guys in this current class just seem so legit. Fultz, DSJ, Ball, JJ and so on just look like guys you know are going to be studs, not as much questions with them.
