Interesting possibility, but I doubt it, simply because it makes their own job messier. Suppose Penn State wins the Big Ten: if Ohio State winds up at #4 and Penn State lands at #5, the committee is gonna face extra scrutiny for putting OSU over a conference champ who beat them. A bigger gap gives them a cleaner out: the conference championship + head-to-head didn't come into the discussion.

The best thing about this result, is that it shuts up the haters.

Perhaps, but regardless of what they do OSU being in if PSU wins is going to face massive criticism, no matter the spot. I hear it everyday, "OSU can't won their conference they do not deserve to be there." I see your point though but counter it with this. The committee is going to face outrage from fans from Wash, who just killed a 8th ranked team for their conference title, who feels they should at least jump OSU.... they will feel punished by having to face Bama at #4. Same with Clemson fans if they dropped to #4.

Regardless, if OSU is in, there will be plenty of critics of the move. Obviously I am biased, but I also agree with the committee assessment on it not being about the 4 conference winners as it is the year in a whole, overall sos, resume, perception of team talent. The goal is to get the best 4 in, and a conference title doesn't necessarily make one the best 4.

538 now has Washington in at >99%...so the computer model sees it as a sure thing at this point:

  1. Already were in the top 4
  2. Dominated a top ten team (the computer program doesn't know how the game played out, but knows the score differential)
  3. The fact that Michigan was #5 was probably significant: Michigan can't do anything, and no way Wisco/Penn State leaps that far to pass Washington after that performance

Hopefully, VT makes it a close one.

I am not confident OSU stays at #2, the committee punishment of us for not winning the B10 title could be to drop us to 4 guaranteeing a rematch of 2014. Something I am not too stoked on.

There's zero chance osu falls further than #3, even that's unlikely. Osu's resume is second to none, dumb division alignments don't determine quality of the teams.

Playing bama again would be fun but I wish we played them last year when both teams were at peak talent.

Browning had his worst game of the year. I doubt he plays that poor again. And yet they still put up 41 points & dominated the game. I'm guessing you were wrong on your game prediction. Trust me, I'd love to play your Buckeyes. :D

i didnt predict the game. no point predicting which team sucks more, might as well predict the mac title game as well :D

41 points is nice but that's largely because liafau threw interceptions on quarter of his attempts, you are not going to face qbs this bad in the playoffs.

Turnover's helped, yes. But, they ran for like over 250 yards. Controlled the game on offense & defense. Make fun of Colorado all you want, but they were still the 8th ranked team coming into the game. Not saying they're Alabama. But, still a good team.

I had Clemson from day one and I am sticking with them. But as a total ACC fan, the big ten was the best overall conference this year.

Well, depends on if UW plays Barrett...

We have a common opponent to compare -- Liufau had a far superior game against Michigan than Barrett did:

  • far more yards -- 246 vs 124
  • far more yards per attempt -- 9.8 vs 3.9
  • far better QBR -- 60.6 vs 36.1

The committees proven they have no rhyme or reason to any of this. But the front of your jersey says Ohio St so that gives you a leg up on anybody but bama

At this point, it's either ignorance or trolling. A #4 vs. #8 game is just a "contest of who sucks the worst." Yeah, I'm leaning towards trolling.

I do think Washington is good and deserving to be in the playoffs. Let me preface that before I say this next. Colorado is not that good to me. The Pac12 this year was weak to me, which is why teams like Wazzu and Colorado actually made noise in the Pac12. As it stands right now, USC is in my opinion arguably the most talented Pac 12, but they lost early so UW obviously is the deserved PAc12 representative in the playoff. Washington will really be tested on the national scale when they play in their playoff game. Then I think we'll really get a good chance to see where they stack up in the national position.

i dont even understand the insecurity coming out of west, anybody who has followed college football more than few years know college football is cyclical. up until just few years ago every team in big ten bar ohio state sucked ass and big ten was a subpar conference, then penn state and michigan got their mojo back and now they are the best conference in the land. usc, stanford and oregon all bound to bounce back and petersen seems to have washington on the right path, so it is not out of question pac12 can move from utter sh*tshow to a force to be reckoned in near future. no reason to live in delusion and make silly comparisons like comparing one of the best qbs in big ten history to a guy that just had 3 interceptions on 13 attempts, just accept power shift is the nature of the beast in college football and the game becomes less frustrating.

Washington should be the team that's left out. If thinking that makes me a 'troll' so be it.

B10 has been amazing thing year especially compared to the Pac 12. There's no way the conference champion from one of the best conferences in recent memory should be left out.

There's also no way Ohio State , the champion from 2 years ago and a coach who is in a class with only Nick Saban should be left out.

And if Clemson wins the ACC why should they be left out? especially considering how awesome Watson and co were in the NCAA Championship game last year.

1.Alabama
2.OSU
3.PSU/Wisc
4.Clemson

Is what it should be .

It won't because you all want your little cinderella story Washington. Its cool. It is what it is I guess.

I wouldn't really call Washington a Cinderella. Sure it's been a while since UW has been considered a top 5 team & 15 years since they last won the conference, but it's totally deserved. I believe we are here to stay too with Chris Peterson. This is the best UW team since the 91' National Championship squad. I really believe they could hang with Ohio State & Clemson. Possibly even challenge Bama. Really good balance of a running & passing game. A defense that has 9 starters as All-conference players. Now, they struggled somewhat against USC. Who outside of Alabama might be the most talented in the country. But, I still think they could give it a go.
