I'm tired of people (broadcasters, etc) saying Brett Brown is an amazing coach. Happens every time I watch a game. I bet it'll happen again tonight when we play the Lakers on national TV. They go on and on and on about what a fantastic coach he is, how he came out of Pop's system in San Antonio, how he's very patient, very enthusiastic, etc.
Three words: I don't care.
I don't care how patient he is or any of that crap. If I was getting paid millions and my boss was satisfied with mediocrity, I'd be patient too. Let the dollars keep rolling.
The main thing is that he's not an Xs and Os coach.
You never, ever, under any circumstance, even if you're a high school coach, put Joel Embiid at 7'2", 280 lbs to play power forward and run around and make him tired and unnecessarily risk injury.
If you want to experiment, Embiid stays at center, and Okafor at power forward. If it works, great. If not, change your power forward, don't remove your franchise center from his natural position.
You stick him in the center, right under the basket, where he can block shots and rebound on defense, and dunk and have hook shots and short jumpers on offense. That's it. Keep it simple.
If I was the coach, it would be a requirement on offense to have Embiid touch the ball on every possession. Inside-out game with a monster like that, not outside-in. If any of the players don't do that, sub them out and be stern about it (aka Pop's style...).
Truth is on the side of the oppressed.
