I think utilising Vic more often and more creatively would be great for the team. As it stands our offence is really predictable. It can get us points, but the good teams are going to hone in on Russ and zone up, because we all know how much he uses the ball.

We could use Vic to get an almost McCollum/Lillard type dynamic going, a two headed snake, where the defence isn't sure who's going to strike. Vic still has progress to make before he becomes super reliable for this kind of thing, but if Russ deferred to victor more, than he could do some offball stuff, or just catch his breath, and maybe if he rests a little there he can spend some more energy on not being a terrible defender. Extra bonus is that it makes the offence a little less predictable and harder to plan around. Not suggesting we take the ball away from Russ too much, not necessarily a 50/50 split, but to just let victor take the reigns on occasion and get Russ to do something else to throw the defence off.

Decent win. We responded to them just once again fouling the **** out of us every single play. I wonder if the NBA is ever gonna catch on to them in that regard.

They are the new bad boys of the NBA. I think NBA in general thinks that they need to create such "identity" teams to make everything much more memorable to the casual follower. Memphis are "grinder bad boys", Warriors are "free-flowing super stars", Philly is "up&coming youngsters" etc. so they even skew their refereeing decisions to match the identities of those teams.

I never saw much of Vic in Orlando but isn't that what he did there? He just seems to struggle driving and finishing. It's nothing as bad as Grant, but I totally agree about the Lillard/McCollum comparison. Vic isn't as good as CJ, but we have other parts to our team that should help to compensate for that. Lillard and McCollum don't have bigs as effective as Adams and Kanter. Despite his improved three percentage, I still don't think he's a natural pure shooter. Getting him some better looks each game will help with his comsistency.

The officiating in the second half was hilariously bad, the refs let both teams hack each other on almost every play, but once in a while whistled some ticky-tacky fouls mostly in Grizzlies' favour. Good job by the Thunder to prevail despite that, it would have been a much easier win for you if the refs didn't allow this to turn into the type of game the Grizzlies love.

Oladipo's inability to finish at the rim well and to draw fouls at a good rate on his drive has always been a big problem for him.

Even if he could drive and get the foul, his free throw shooting is waaayy down this year.

He shows Dion Waiters level low BBIQ and execution from time to time that it makes me wonder if the Sonics curse is real. Maybe even if OKC traded James Harden he would turn into a whining prick that squanders every opportunity just to show his... wait a minuuute

OK maybe not Dion Waiters level but his occasional offensive inaptitude is in such a stunning contrast with his general defensive prowess that I am inclined to compare it to Waiters that is the only name fits this kind of shocking day&night performances in my recent memory.

I think you're forgetting how bad Dion is. Oladipo's actually been pretty good overall this season, Dion's still been bottom of the trash bin bad.

I've seen nothing to justify comparing his bbiq to waiters. He's a shockingly bad finisher but has taken mostly smart shots and not tried to do too much yet this year. If anything he's been overly tentative at times, which is exactly the opposite of Dion.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Actually I re-watched the Atlanta game on dec 5th yesterday which left most of the bad taste about him to check if my concerns about him were exaggerated and now I think he's not Dion Waiters bad as long as he's not the focus point of offense. BUT when asked to provide some PG-like contribution he either just passes to WB (which is mostly a dead end) or he does something unexpected which even surprises himself (both good and bad). Just pair him with somebody to carry the ball.

1st qtr
8:50 : easy driving layup but gets blocked from behind
2:50 : 3-pt attempt, miss

2nd qtr
11:00 2-pt jump shot, made
9:20 3-pt attempt, miss
8:40 driving layup, made
8:20 3-pt attempt, miss
7:50 passes to Grant instead of taking the shot on fast break, ends with grant offensive foul
*7:20 monster dunk over dwight howard with assist from sabonis

3rd qtr
10:32 3-pt attempt, miss
8:20 carries the ball and gives to wb
7:50 carries the ball, hesitates for a shot around 3-pt line and gives the ball to wb at 12 second mark
7:00 passes the ball to sabonis for open 3 but he misses
6:45 carries the ball and passes to wb
6:19 finishes driving layup on fast break
5:20 nearly fumbles the ball after receiving pass from adams, tries a desperation 3 and airballs

4rd qtr
11:40 passes to semaj instead of jump shot and semaj.. misses of course
10:50 jump shot, miss
9:20 3-pt attempt, miss
5:30 wb does not pass to oladipo even if he was open for like 5 seconds on 3-pt line with open hands
5:20 wb misses a looong 3 instead of passing to oladipo
5:10 3-pt attempt, made
*4:40 fumbles the ball over halfcourt
4:02 carries the ball and passes to wb
*0:18 wb (obviously gassed) passes to oladipo at halfcourt, oladipo fumbles trying to drive, jumpball with korver

Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
