I disagree... i think if anything RHJ took advantage of his speed. he blew past porzingas several times and he pulled down 8 rebounds.

our issues on the glass had more to do with lopez/hamilton not stepping up. hernangomez had 7 offensive rebounds by himself. porzingas had 4, but most of those came late and 2 with booker on the floor.

i dont think RHJ as afull time 4 is a good thing, but it has its place and last night it worked in our favor most of the game. he really did a great job on porzingas

yeah, expecting a 6'7 wing playing small ball 4 to help stave off the opposing rebounders when your centers rebound like trash is asking a lot.

-LOVED what I saw from Whitehead/LeVert/RHJ the first 3 quarters. hustle, defense, unselfish play, passing, and playing with confidence. Whitehead had some big time highlight passes.

In the 4th quarter all 3 of them were guilty of playing hero ball. especially Whitehead/RHJ. i think the knicks being chippy took them out of the games a little. they also turned it over, but thats to be expected with young players.

-Good to see harris back on the floor. short minutes but looks to be back in stride. need his shooting back in the lineup badly.

-rebounding was awful. our C where no exsistant. and worse it was mostly just effort. the knicks bigs where out efforting us on the glass.

-RHJ's defense on godzingas was excellent. kept him from deep post position, forced misses, knocked the ball away. until late 4th he was a non factor

-we talked about brook so whatever

Tough loss, but good experience for our young trio ina tight game vs a rival

yeah, and this is where veteran leadership failed the younger players. None of the vets stepped up last night when the Knicks put the pressure on. The kids carried this team for 3 qtrs and what did we see? Our max player getting his ass whipped by Hernangomez (and thats not a knock on Willy, since that kid has been balling all season long despite the Knicks' record).

Lopez justifiably gets criticized for his weaknesses in rebounding, but I think there is a tendency to just look at the boxscore, see a lot of offensive rebounds, and conclude it was primarily his fault.

In fact, I have heard two narratives: (1) That Lopez was mainly at fault for the Knicks performance on the boards; and (2) That Hernangomez destroyed him on the glass. Let's actually look at reality for a change:

1. The Knicks had 21 offensive rebounds last night, but 11 of them came with Lopez OFF the floor.

The fact that over half of the Knicks rebounds were allowed in the ~16 minutes Lopez wasn't in the game (33%), should tell you that the main culprit was our bench, most noticeably Hamilton and Booker.

2. Of the 10 offensive rebounds that came with Lopez on the floor:

a. 4 went to Porzingis; 2 went to Melo; 1 went to Noah; and 2 went to Hernangomez

b. Only on three occasions (out of 21 O-rebounds) did Lopez's primary assignment grab the rebound. This occurred on both of Melo's boards and (one of) Noah's.

c. On two other occasions, Lopez did not have the primary responsibility for the play, but should have done more to grab the rebound (Porz's first two rebounds).

---------

So as to (1) Lopez mainly being at fault, I'd say he had some degree of fault on 5 of the Knicks 21 offensive rebounds. He was definitely not our main culprit.

As to (2) Hernangomez destroying Lopez on the glass - this one makes me laugh the most.

Hernangomez had 7 offensive rebounds, but only 2 occurred with Lopez in the game, and they both happened on the same possession.

Lopez also wasn't at fault for those two rebounds. He contested a long-two on the wing and Lopez's teammates failed to box out Hernangomez on his two attempted put-backs.

Also, Hernangomez made a grand total of three shots while Lopez was in the game. One of these shots had nothing to do with Lopez who had switched onto Porzingis. So he gave up two baskets to the guy. Big deal.

Hernangomez didn't destroy Lopez on the glass. Not one of his offensive rebounds was Lopez's fault. Unless you want to blame Hamilton for giving up 5 O-boards while Lopez was on the bench...

No, it didn't worked in our favor. After they found out there was a mismatch between RHJ and Porzingas, they run the same play three times in a row, ending with Porzingas hitting two shots. And in clutch time, Knicks owned the glass. Even Knicks backup SF is bigger than RHJ. I'm not blame RHJ for not fighting for rebounds.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

The lineup under the 5 minute mark was IW/LeVert/RHJ/Hamilton/Lopez. Two seven footers on the court.

It doesn't matter if Lopez was on the court or not at the time of the rebounding.

one player reeled in 16, the other 6.

Who was working harder that night?

Porzingas didnt play great, and mostly because RHJ altered his shots, prevented him from getting team and swarmed him whenever he put it on the floor. yeah kristaps had a few bucks late, nut overall RHJ played him extremely well and better then any other net who was on him...

RHJ also blew by porzingas consistently. he got the better of him when the two faced off 1 on 1

yeah RHJ took it to the rack versus KP several times. Nice clean drives at that.

RHJ needs to add more strength overall so that he won't have trouble with stronger wing players/4's. Handling stretch 4s isn't that hard for him.

He did force Melo into a few tough shots as well.
