I think that's what they call a "breakout".
It's all about BB being healthy. I've consistently argued for the past year that last season--when Beal was in and out of the lineup with injuries--was NOT the time to judge his talent and potential.
His good play this year started immediately after an injury. He started this season looking pretty bad. He has had healthy stretches in past seasons and never played close to this level, not even for a 2 week span.
Good health doesn't explain his change in shot selection, the new moves he has added off the dribble, improved foul shooting, shooting 10% better from midrange, etc. Maybe one day he will explain it in an interview.
Other possible theories for Beal
- He doesn't play many minutes with the bench anymore to begin the 2nd quarter. Perhaps the new rotations have helped him save energy.
- He has looked to attack the basket more and sometimes gets very easy looks off the dribble.
- Beal just seems stronger, he seems to generate more lift on his mid-range shot.
- Practice makes perfect- it took a while for Wall to become consistent at 2 pointers.
- Otto Porter play has been better than any small forward has ever played with.
- Morris has his flaw but he helps stretch the floor certainly more than Nene. Beal also played well in the postseason when Pierce played the 4.
