Here's another 2016 study on Jones fractures in NBA players headed by Martin O'Malley (the doctor that did both Embiid's 2nd surgery and Simmons' surgery). The average Return to Play time was 9.8 weeks. The longest was 12.5.

So this isn't just people playing arm chair doctor, it seems pretty clear that either there was some sort of reinjury, or they are handling this in an unprecedented way. It's already been a month and a half longer than the longest return to play, with no return in sight. This goes well beyond just being cautious...

McCollum, KD, Brook Lopez (think he had another surgery along with the Jones), Rasheed Wallace, Jodie Meeks all took more time than that average (I'm just naming some I know for sure, haven't tracked it league-wide). Obviously KD and Rasheed had the re-injury and McCollum was coming back from his second version of it. Rasheed never really came back after the re-injury and then KD took the whole rest of the year off and took 4-6 months before he geared up again. I think initially KD took about 10 weeks the first time.

I've seen some various numbers where about 5-8 percent of people have a re-injury of the fracture, but I think that generally means a second surgery. I'm pretty sure we would at least know if he had a second surgery. A "setback" would pretty much just be another surgery as it means the initial thing didn't take.

CJ got injured a week later than Simmons did and returned on January 8.

Jodie meeks did take longer, but he also suffered a setback a little under 3 months after the surgery.

My point isn't that he's coming back "after the average time." So far he's taken a month and a half longer than the longest return to play time from a study, done by the guy that did his surgery, with no return in sight.

I agree that it seems like a setback is less likely. But that just makes the way they are handling this more bizarre.

Yeah I got ya. I think I'd be more shocked if Noel didn't stay out way longer for an ACL, Joel didn't stay out way longer both times around for his foot etc. It's just the Sixers, and I also think with rookies it's just a whole different ballgame most of the time. They're learning a new life to go along with everything else and so ramp up time I do think involves non-health stuff. Like, the five practice thing I don't think is BS, for example. It's hard to integrate someone midseason (especially a rookie) and it's also hard to find five practice days to get them out there.

Can't everyone see that Simmons and Embiid are just fine. We won too many games for the tank to work so they came up for an " injury " for Jojo. Only problem is he went off against Houston after his so called injury. This is nothing but tanking guys but the dancing viedo made BC have to come up with a made up injury.

That would be great news if it made sense.

You think he' faking an injury, bribing the entire Sixers' medical staff, and forcing himself not to participate in three months worth of NBA basketball (which is his career and lifelong dream)--so he can win an award that's basically meaningless and that no one remembers after a year or two? MCW won the ROY for chrissake, and I think Tyreke Evans was a unanimous choice. It might be sorta cool to win, but no one's setting up a huge conspiracy and rearranging their entire life to do it.

Yes I do, just like when they asked him about his jump shot and he said "don't worry about my shot, I scored 20PPG". He cares a lot about stats and this stuff. Hey maybe I'm wrong but that is the impresion I got about his character.

Simmons seems like the type of guy who won't tell people his weaknesses. Him saying don't worry about his shot he scored 20 ppg does not mean he cares about stats and stuff. He always says he's going to work on everything. He knows his weaknesses. He just doesn't like to admit it to others and just says he's working on everything. Nothing wrong with that.

could someone give us some informations about Ben and Biid. It's getting ridiculous and pretty annoying. They are the cornerstones for this franchise and the FO should share some informations with the News and the Fans.

Was that eye opening thing an 11th hour meeting about how much damage is being done PR wise to the club... and they've now have told Simmons it is up to him as to whether he play this season (After it was effectively taken out of his hands only last week).

Nah that's so off. If he cared about stats he would have averaged 35ppg at LSU. He would have averaged 11apg if he had teammates that could finish. Someone only cared about scoring wouldn't be sharing the ball around so much. Not to mention the knock on him is he was only going at about 70% rat pace and not wanting to take over games.

I remember his Montverde coaching getting on him because he wasn't looking to score. Doesn't sound like someone who only cares about stats.

The front office is definitely hiding something. They kept the Embiid news from everyone.. giving 1-2 day updates when they knew he would be out weeks. They are refusing to talk about Ben Simmons and give anymore updates.

Even Molly Sullivan who I asked to find out what was happening with Ben... all she could come back with was:

"*officially* I can't give you much".

This just proves they know exactly what is happening. "Unofficially" she could tell me... if she wanted to lose her job. She knows exactly what is happening with Simmons but can't and won't talk about it. Anyone associated with the sixers won't talk about it. Any journo that works for the sixers refuses to even ask the question.

The team knows exactly what is happening, but lie to us saying they don't know.

It took a couple of beat writers to spill the beans because the Front Office finally came out and admitted what was going on with Embiid. What is it going to take for Simmons because the Simmons camp is already starting to make it known to friends of friends.

The point isn't whether Simmons is playing or not playing. It's why the front office refuse to talk about it. Fans deserve better.

PS: I already said earlier Simmons got told to shut it down days ago... and now that Simmons camp is unhappy.. the sixers may start having him train again. Lets see what happens in the next few days... if we suddenly start seeing Ben Simmons posting photos again of him working out and suddenly dates start happening. If that is the case then the Sixers backpeddled and I won't "walk this all back". Just proves how slimy certain people within the organisation are.

Fact is the way they've handled Embiid and Simmons injury updates to the fans has been pathetic. Nothing changes that and that's the real story.

He worked out before the game for the first time in a while on Saturday. Was moving quicker than past times.

That makes no sense. So you're saying Simmons and his camp want to play but the Sixers don't want him to say? If true then that's the opposite from the rumors that says Simmons' camp doesn't want him to play and the Sixers do. Why would the Sixers not want him to play?
