Bruh, no no no no. The backcourt would be Satoransky and Barton, and then we would look to sign a buyout point guard for depth. No Rondo lol
No Mahinmi trade
Sorry man but if you can get Rondo for mahinmi you do it, You jump on it if portis is involved, Rondo is not fully garunteed next year so if you want you can cut him and get instant cap space that Mahinmi was taking up. Rondo is more than adequate enough to back up wall and on a team that is aiming at contending he might be happy with that. Sato is coming along and you can let him ride the pine for a bit and learn and he should be ready next year if you cut rondo. Smith has proven that he can be more that capable of backing up gortat, and you can get what mahinmi give you form a larry saunder/china-Dleague/buy out guy for about 14 less million and no long term commitment. Plus you loose that contract. This automaticly makes it the smarter play if you can do it.
Why would Chicago take on a 30 yr old Mahinmi making $16 mil a yr for Rondo + assets? When...
a. They are potentially ready to trade Jimmy Butler and begin rebuilding.
b. If they want to get rid of Rondo bad enough they can simply by him out.
It's great to have these pie in the sky type of ideas but to continually push them as some sort of realistic scenario just seems silly.
Well Like I said about 4 times, you add a first and a second to the deal, 2018 first and second most likely, or 2018 first or 2017 second. #2 Yeah they can buy him out next year, but they have been reported to be trying very hard to get any asset they can for rondo and no one is offering one, they have been frustrated with Portis, look at his playing time. They might be interested in a vet player in order to get a mullegan on portis in the form of a first and a second for rondo in a good draft in exchange for taking the contract that they can make some use of. They don't have another true center on the team other than lopez and a vet center on the bench would be good for them. Whats one thing you want at the start of a rebuild, a moderatly solid vvet for the young guys to be around and a decently large filler contract that keeps you about the floor and can be used a year or two down the road to move in a larger deal. We did the same thing when we traded for NENE, yes you can argue that nene is a better play than mahinmi but that is neither here nor there.
Its essentially Portis for a first and Rondo for a 2017 or 2018 second and Mahinmi.
Obviously the deal can be done with out portis and a first. But hell I would still do the trade straight up Rondo for mahinmi, and a 2017 second hell give them 2 seconds if they want it. It still makes sense for both teams. Pie in the sky lol, happens all the time man. But, its dependent on how they strike out on other center trades they are looking at too. I think any buttler trade will be pick heavy and mostly contract filler and not player asset heavy. Probably Amir Johnson and Jaylyn brown and a nice pick package, Jordan micky maybe?
