Otherwise I have read/seen/heard nothing to suggest Detroit would do this, or is even considering trading Drummond. The Pistons poster couldn't give a reason why they would do it either other than they'd like our Brooklyn pick. Well no **** they would -- so would everyone else -- that doesn't mean every team is going to trade their franchise player to us.
If the Pistons trade Drummond they would still have a roster loaded with $10+ million long-term contracts for guys like Tobias Harris, Reggie Jackson, Jon Leuer and then $5+ million guys Ish Smith, Boban and Marcus Morris. Those are the guys they need to find takers for, not Drummond. It doesn't make sense, and there's no rumors to suggest it does.

Here's a twist- could Knicks become so desperate to dump Melo and his money that we get their pick this year or next?
It's happened before. Cavs got a pick from Clippers for taking Baron Davis, it rolled first overall and became Kyrie Irving. Look at what the Kings just did. You can't know if you don't ask. And if we're giving up max cap space for a 32 year old, the least the Knicks can do is give us a good pick.

Man, I really didn't want to do it, but if you insist.
Smart + Zeller for Drummond. Final offer.

Ideally yes. Can't see why Detroit would want AB. Have to get a 3rd team involved.
If the Celtics make a trade for another team's star player the Celtics player who is most likely to go is Jae Crowder. The team trading their star is going to want to get a player back that is on a good contract and is going to be around for a while. No team is going to trade their star for a guy that can walk away for nothing in a year (Bradley). This is some pretty basic stuff.
The team would be rebuilding and they would want a guy they can build with.

My head. I am one of the biggest Marcus Smart honks in the world and I generally kill Drummond for his lack of offensive range but I am carrying his bags to the airport for this type of deal. Drummond is 23 years old and the premier rebounder and defender in the game. I will miss Marcus but wow.
Not a lot of players I would be willing to just give up Smart and BRK' 17 or '18 for but he is on the short list.
Boston has a surplus of guys who can play guard (IT, AB, Smart, Rozier & Brown), and very few good bigs... Someone has to get dealt eventually to balance the roster...
Yeah, and that someone should be Bradley; not Smart.

Andrew McCeltic wrote:Banks2Pierce wrote:I'm scared of Drummond. While his counting stats look the exact same as last season, the team based stats and directly ignoring coaching the year after he got paid look red flag-ish to me. That's in relation to the 2018 BKN, but open for business in other scenarios.
He also lost 20 pounds over the summer to play a different role in Van Gundy's defense. I don't think his work ethic is the issue. & a guy like SVG who barks a lot can wear on players, they start to tune him out. It's bad motivational technique.

Oh I think I would be inclined to deal the BRK 18 if nothing else comes of it for him. My only fear with him is that he cannot shoot free throws so all that really needs to happen is Hack-A-Shaq and send him to the line. Plus he can't shoot 3's.
I agree as the FTs are what hold him back from being a 20ppg player and it hurts at the end of games. I don't get the shooting 3s though. I think having 4 3 point shooters around a in the paint big is more then enough. I would rather have my center down low dominating then camping around the 3 point line.
The Celtics love 3 point shooters at all positions. They value it more than protecting the rim and rebounding so ultimately the team would 100% pass on Drummond.

Ok -- I'd just like to clarify your comment. Is the message that we shouldn't discuss whether or not the rumors are credible or make sense? If so that's fine, just want to be sure I understand.
Valid wrote:The_Ghost_of_JB wrote:CelticFaninLBC wrote:So there's going to be a board meltdown if Smart is dealt for Drummond?
People are too attached to Smart. I admit Smart is playing well but beside Olynyc the Celtics bigs are awful. Drummond isn't a perfect fit but he would easily be the best Celtic rebounders since Dave Cowens.
We are attached to him because he is really freaking good, not to mention that there is actually evidence that Drummond makes his team's defense worse.
I'm a UConn fan, so I love Drummond and I would love to have him, but I'm not about to trade Smart for him.
Bradley? Sure. Smart? No.
