I get this line of thinking and it's easy to look at the drafts in hindsight and say Phily should have taken player X instead of player Y but I think the reason they went with the 4-5 year tank "process" is they looked at the odds of top 5 picks panning out and realized that not all of them will so by doing it multiple years the hope was really that 2 or 3 of the 5 or 6 guys pan out. Where as if you try to quick rebuild chances are you only land maybe 1 or even 0 guys that make a difference. If Embiid and Simmons or their pick this year are awesome their "process" will have worked.
The real dumb move they made was taking MCW late lotto instead of Giannis or even Schroeder. They knew they were starting a long rebuild so why not take a shot at the younger high upside guys instead of a 20 something MCW. Now they remedied that by getting the Lakers pick in that tragic Suns and Bucks deal.
Yes, I agree. I was more or less pointing out that drafting isn't easy, no matter how high your picks are. I would be worried for embid being that they kept Jah for insurance purposes. They could still easily walk away with only Simmons and Ok4 in the not to distant future. Not a great haul for 4 ultra high picks.
No it's not. Now I do think it's very fair to criticize that Okafor pick since Porzingas was available and they already had Noel and Embiid on the roster.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.
