He crushed it by the 10th game demanding more minutes in the 4th quarter over NVE. He demanded a coach be fired.... he demanded that Kareem be traded. I know the great Magic everyone sees on YouTube and in retrospectives but there was an equally damaging other side to him that gets little attention. Those of us who remember all of that have a good feel for what we are most likely going to see here. There is a reason Magic was pushed away from the Lakers by Dr. Buss in the late 90's.
Jordan was a giant pain in the arse, who didn't get along with hardly anyone, and had a huge ego. Kobe was a monster for a teammate. Essentially got Shaq and Phil ran out of town (Shaq played his part). All part of the package with these elite guys. I was there for all but the first couple years of Magic. Your leaving out a pretty large chunk of "the story". Between 79-91 season we won 5 titles. Lost 4...so we made the finals 9 years there.....I think 2 Western conf losses.
From start to finish.....we were in it every year under his tenure. 20-points / 11-assists. About 140 tripple-dubs in a 900 game career. That's about 1in 6 games. Guy has every damn right to be a beast. Far be it from me to say anything negative about the great Kareem, but the guy had what??....1 title in the 10 years before Magic....5 after?
Just sayin.
You wanna watch the dude like a hawk, you go right ahead. My wager still stands if you wanna take it. I have no doubt he'll be better than the guy before him. Up to you. But to have a go at him over a nothin Calderon move (or lack thereof) 3-4 days into his tenure is just hatin for hatin's sake.
