Not tanking would be the equivalent to playing playoff style basketball at the All-Star game. It just doesn't make sense from a progressive standpoint. Sure, you may make some fans happy for the short term, but what if one of the all-stars gets injured and out for the year? Then, you just lost a lot of people's happiness because you overplayed an exhibition game. And, really, that's all these games are when you are out of playoff contention as the Hornets almost assuredly are.
You guys against tanking will be the same ones not able to understand why Charlotte finishes as a 8-10th seed each season and gets obliterated in the first round if they even make it in.
And.. when I say tanking. That doesn't mean you go up to a player like Kemba and be like, "hey, clang a few shots off the rim and turn the ball over." That wouldn't be good sportsmanship or teach good fundamentals. Instead, you give more minutes to D-Leaguers like Weber, J.O.B, and Wood in order to better analyze their potential under real NBA game conditions. Maybe even try a few new ripples like MKG being more of a facilitator on offense. Now is the time to experiment and figure out what can improve the team for next season. It's not the time to get down in the mud and be stuck in your ways in order to somehow fight for a 9th seed finish. The fact that most of Charlotte's remaining games are against playoff teams makes this a perfect time to try out new combinations and players.
I agree. No one is going to remember this win a year from now. Moral victories are dumb.
Glad the guys played hard but its more of a "loss" for the franchise at this point. Yeah! We beat
the Wizards. At this point Clifford should conclude his point that if we run our guys into the ground we can get a close win and compete. Cool Clifford, congrats. Now lets build for next year and try new things like letting MKG bring up the ball and initiate the offense and give our young guys (Weber, JOB, Wood, Graham) a good 12-18 minutes off the bench to see what we have.
Of course, it'll never happened that way and we'll finish the season with 37 wins and another Cho/Clifford "We'll if it weren't for injuries.." post season interview. Disgusting.
We are just gonna have to hope to get a franchise player with the 12th pick in the draft. I mean what else can we do?
