John Townsend, Sixers shooting coach, can be seen in the second tweet by Pompey. This is a quote from Townsend he said last summer.
“If he can keep the ball a little bit out in front of his head, that will help with that elbow popping up,” he says. “That way he’ll shoot it out and over the top of the rim as opposed to at the front of the rim. The basket will get a little bit bigger for him. … Especially right now, the key is knocking down free throws.”With all due respect, but if I watch him shooting FT's in those clips I don't see much improvement from Simmons' form this summer. In the first clip you can see his elbow pointing towards the corner of the field and in the second clip the wrist movement looks extremely mechanic.
Perhaps Simmons doesn't like the adjustments and he'd rather shoot this way, but to me it seems a tat disappointing. But I would have loved an attempt to change his shooting hand, so what do I know. Look at the next clip and the Curry-esque floater he casually threw with his right hand, he's got so much touch with that hand...
This is example might be even more evident. Rob and Ben are fooling around and trying circus shots, attempting an over the back half court shot, but what do we see? Simmons throws it with his non-shooting right hand. It's so obvious he's more familiar with it.
Okay, sorry for the rant. I'll retrieve in my attic, throwing little toy basketballs in the bin and let the actual shooting coaches do their job.
