I agree though. We need to get our future C in this draft and shift that position to one where it doesn't kill us defensively, we will never win with Lopez's feet glued to the floor while guards get wrecked on screens, its nauseating to see how other teams jump those screens while we always give up clean jumpers to guards. We cannot afford to wait til 2019 to do it. Marks has another tall task in front of him come draft night.
Patton is still slotted in that late teens range.
I still think a 22/27/Booker for Myers Leonard/Harris/15/19 could have some legs and again, that is why I do a trade like that in a heartbeat. I know Leonard's contract is awful, but it's not that huge overall and like Prok has mentioned, as deep as this draft is, to me there is a big talent difference in the late lotto to late teens range in comparison to where our picks are.
If we could somehow walk away from this draft with 2 guys out of say Ntilikina, DSJ, Zach Collins, Anunoby, Patton, Donovan Mitchell and Terrance Ferguson, we'd be in good shape, but as it stands right now, we'll be lucky if just one of those guys falls to 22.
Like, I don't even think Mitchell lasts until 22 in all reality, but him or Ferguson are the most likely to slip and Ferguson is raw as hell, though he has carved out a small role in a man's league already.
I think you get to the 15 and 19, I think you can get into the top 10(Sacto's 2nd pick is 10) for Whitehead and eating Gay's contract for maybe Hamilton and still keep one of those 2 picks.
That's huge.
Say windup with the 10th and 15th(or 19th) overall picks in this draft without giving up anything of real value other than cap room for the next couple years(and not even a lot of it), while preserving the ability to offer a max contract this off-season or next?
These are the moves that set us up for the future. I don't know if they're completely realistic, but these aren't crazy pipe dream fodder either.
