LA cant afford to pay him that. they need to retain paul and griffin and get another piece to entice them to stay.

we need to roll that space and bide our time. we have zero reason to spend a ton of money, that's aside from the fact that the real needle movers won't touch the Nets' money.
yeah i mean if you dont think reddick moves the needle id understand. i actually think he has a pretty big impact on offensive efficiency and wins. i get he is 30, but thats how we want to play and will eventually need to find his replacment...
i want continuity... bring in reddick and look to draft the next deadeye shooter who is great moving without the ball like korver or JJ.
MrDollarBills wrote:kamaze wrote:How do you guys expect the team to get better if you don't want to pay players?
I see no reason to really get that much better through spending money next season. None of these players on the market are worth signing for 25-30 a season.

Prokorov wrote:Papi_swav wrote:No way Prok, his impact is not that big and he is not an all around player. He can't create for himself or others and he doesn't take it to the hole good enough. Does he even take his guys off the dribble? He's a lights out shooter no doubt about it but he wouldn't be so lights out on this team. We don't have the star power the Clippers have. We would need to have guys setting him up the whole game. His defense isn't great either.
I disagree. i think he creates a ton of offense for others and that is really the main reason i want him here. when he is running off screens he requires the attention of 2 guys. the clippers got so many dunks with JJ coing off a baselin screen and the big steps out cause they dont want him to have space and then its a dunk for the offensive guy once the big leaves. boston and atlanta got those same dunks off korver/allen. it puts soo much pressure on the defense when they ahve to defend screens as a team OFF the ballI'm surprise that you think we would be the front runners, playing with the Clippers, I can see him wanting to play on a contending team or with other star players. Don't really see why any vet would sign with us unless we overpay honestly and if were willing to overpay for Reddick we should be willing to overpay for Otto Porter who is a 2 way player.
only 5 or 6 teams can pay him the 20 million he will be looking for and he loves brooklyn. owns a house and 2 buisnesses here.

My only fear with going after these tier 2 shooters is that they start producing like Foye or Wayne Ellington from the moment they arrive in Brooklyn

Hello Brooklyn wrote:How is Reddick better than Porter?
They are both elite 3 point shooters, but one is 23 and the other is 32.
Porter is getting better and hes a 3rd option on a pretty good team.
Reddick is getting worse. He just had the worst post season of his career.
And were supposed to invest 20 million on him?
Imagine how awful that contract will look in 3 years when were paying Reddick 20 million and he's 36.
Probably the worst Free Agent we could possibly go after.

Well i can see how you would feel that way based on those points... issue is, other then the part about listing their ages, i disagree with all of itL
I dont agree porter is getting better or Reddick worse. Reddicks numbers are right inline with the past 2 seasons which were the best of his career. Porter improve on last year, mostly shooting percentages. but nothing to suggest he will get much better then he is now or become some all-star. saying reddick is worse because of a small sample of 7 playoff games seems like a poor way to measure. especially when porter has been disappointing this playoffs.
There is also a TON reddick does that proter doesnt and that very few other 40% 3 point shooters do... and that is he is elite running off screens off the ball. it creats tons of pressure on a defense and can often occupy multiple defenses, which isnt rare off ball. prevents teams from heling and rotating.
Reddick is one of if not the best realistic target we could land. there are few guys who do what he does, and he has an enormous impact on how teams can defend us.
FlipFlopShot wrote:The focus for getting JJ Redick should be for his veteran guidance and therefore we should only be offering him a declining vet role contract. We shouldn't be pushing anymore just to get him.
We have multiple guys who are capable of shooting high percentages from the perimeter including the larger, developing Joe Harris.
Papi_swav wrote:[
I agree on the 1st part, he does draw some attention but I feel like we can get someone cheaper to do what he does. We can maybe draft and develop him into one. Or Why not just go for Korver then? I think he would be cheaper than Reddick even though we will have to overpay to get him here too but he pretty much does what Reddick do.
What about free agents like Jodie Meeks, Anthony Morrow, Nick Young, CJ Miles, Casspi, maybe Waiters? I feel like these guys can do what Reddick does on a lower level and much cheaper.
I'm interested in Meeks or CJ Miles for this team. Meeks is another lights out shooter that can come off screens and knock a bunch of shots down. and Miles is a decent defender and can shoot it anywhere from 3. Both these guys shoot over 40% from 3 and can come off screens and knock it down. And they wouldn't cost 18-20 million per, Probably 8-12 million per which I would be ok with.

Porter has to get better by virtue of his age. Unless you think hes some type of bum like D-Will who just doesn't care.
He hasn't reached his peak yet.
Reddick is 32, he has to decline.
Also Reddick is a horrid defender, whereas Porter is a pretty good one. You just ignored that aspect of their games.
I can't believe you want to sign Reddick. Youre the same guy who was pissed about having to pay Thaddeus Young money.
And now you're fine just throwing 20 million+ at a 32 year old role player, who just came off the worst series of his career?

he is coming off the best 3 years of his career. and he would make an enormous impact on how teams could defend us. he doesnt just space the floor, all 5 guys need to have eyes on him at all times as he runs off screens. the screeners man needs to hedge and show OFF THE BALL. makes a big impact... there are a few guys who shoot 40% from three consistently... but VERY few who do it off screens or on the move
Look at that video above... coming off he baseline screens by Deandre.... and what happens the second deandres man tries to help? its an easy pass/dunk to deandre. celtics used to run it with KG/Allen all the time. either reddick comes off clean or the big helps and you risk a layup.
