DSJ only has a 6'3" wingspan so he will need to use crazy amounts of energy and grit to defend.

In 2014. We don't know how long his arms are now. Could be the same, could be longer.

That said, don't really trust a random reporter. I think they'll consider both of them at 3, but doubt they are the frontrunners.

Does Smith really have knee problems? I mean I know he had the ACL injury, but that isn't career threatening anymore, and he looked plenty explosive this season.

He tore it twice. That's concerning.

When did he tear it the other time? I don't see anything. Do you have a link to his other time he tore his ACL?

No, but I heard it from multiple guys who cover the NBA here and there. I think he probably did it the first time earlier in his high school career, but I can't find a link for it, maybe they were wrong. I'll see if I can find something on it.

This would be such an ideal draft for a second top 7 pick.

His wingspan was measured at 6'5.5 at Adidas Nations last summer

With the option to draft a player like De'aaron Fox, I'm staying away from Dennis Smith Jr.. Why? I'm betting on Fox's body type to hold up over Smith's. When I look at Smith I see Baron Davis and Eric Bledsoe. When I look at Fox I see Iverson and Tony Parker. But I can see the opposite side of the coin as well. Some people see Damian Lilliard in DSJ and some people wonder how Fox can be a John Wall or Westbrook clone with such a huge difference in weight, so he must be the next Dennis Schroder...I believe that I'm looking at the players correctly, but time will tell...
DSJ is constantly compared to players that have played with a greater motor than him like BD, Bledsoe, and Lawry. In reality he may be a Lillard that not only doesn't play defense like Lillard but he also desides when he wants to play offense on given nights throughout the season that's totally unlike Lillard. I can see weight issues in DSJ's future just like BD.

Baron Davis had atleast one severe knee injury before turning pro.

I've heard both Kevin O'Connor and Sam vecenie(who was @ the combine) that Smith is less than 6,3 and has. 6'3 wingspan. Either way his athleticism is what makes him special so idk if his lack of length will matter early on in his career.

he is about 6'1 w/o shoes, that would be 6'2.5, he is basically between 6'2 and 6'3

Smith didn't go to the combine. He doesn't have an official measurement since he measured at 6'1.5" height/6'3" wing by USA basketball in 2014 when he was 16 years old. Missed some opportunities to get another official measurement last year because of his ACL.

Teams will get a chance to measure him. If he's grown his stock could ride a little bit.

The thing being ignored with the whole Baron Davis/Dennis Smith thing is that, in his prime, Baron Davis was a damn good, physical defender.

I get the comparison from a burst and skilled (but with average proficiency) offensive tools perspective.. But that whole side of the court discrepancy makes the comp fall apart, in my opinion.
