Could this actually be the Lakers trying to squeeze an asset out of Philly? If Philly is convinced the Lakers are taking a player they want(other than Ball), they could have the Lakers take their guy and give them a 2nd round pick(Lakers got none) and #3 for him. If Philly asks them to pick Ball, the Lakers could simply say good job calling our bluff, never mind.
The question is, could Philly actually be convinced the Lakers might take who they want? What if it's one of the wings? Could the Lakers conceivably go after the one of Jackson/Tatum/Isaac that Philly covets? I don't see how Philly could be fooled into thinking they will but it's quite a balancing act but if the price is a 2nd rounder it might be worth it to Philly to just hand it over to for sure get their guy.
the lakers FO were notoriously tight-lipped when it came to anything.
not so sure about magic and pelinka, but there doesn't seem to be very much escaping this office as well.
only real reporters with sources from inside the organisation is ramona shelbourne and kevin ding (those two are jeanie's hitmen)
